I loved Charlotte when I lived there. Housing market was in the shitter 6 years ago when I left but it's probably back to where it was when I moved there. I bought a 2000 square foot house in 2006 for 200k and sold it in 2013 for 145k.

I've spent a lot of time there for what it's worth. To me city seems to have no soul. It's bland. I've just never enjoyed it.

It's a good city. Big enough but not too big. 3 lakes very close by, mountains not very far, but people are moving to the city big time. Houses sell very quickly
You should fly down for several days to visit

Houses in the decent areas are tough to find for below $300k. You will need a car.

I know someone who just moved there last year from ATL after graduating from UGA. He loves it.

It is a little bland, but improving. As I've told people, it's a great place to live but I wouldn't come here on vacation, if that makes sens

I agree. I can think of worse places to live though.
If you're a wine drinker, the Yadkin Valley wine region is about an hour north of Charlotte. Fiance and I go there at least several times a year.

Very curious if anyone can elaborate on this? With what cities are we comparing it to that are of similar size?

From where? That makes a difference.

Ive spent plenty of time in both and give me Chicago any day over Charlotte.
i guess it just depends on what stage of life you're in and whats important to you.
Nothing wrong with Charlotte, but its just another city and kind of bland IMO. Nashville is much better IMO

The other options really are staying obviously, NYC, Atlanta, or Jacksonville
I say this as someone who will always have a soft spot for Jax...
One of these is most definitely not like the others.

It's bland compared to similar sized cities like New Orleans, Nashville, Portland, and Austin. It's even bland compared to Tampa and Orlando.

NYC is not like the other two.

Portland is too far. I like it, but too far west and not close enough to east coast and Florida beaches.

Trust me as someone that moved out west. You get used to that after 2 or 3 decades.

There's a town that could use a little blandness. frick that place and whatever "culture" they're trying so hard to project. frick Nashville, learn what country music is before you claim to be proud of it.

Lived there for a while and moved to Mississippi back in 2015. Haven't regretted the move yet.
We lived in Huntersville. It's a nice place. Wife and I were bored out of our minds though. It's a city without much of an identity and everybody is from somewhere other than Charlotte.
