If LSU is a elite program, they should not give a guy a season or three to prove he's learned from his mistakes.

You think Bama is going to hire Kevin Steele to replace Saban? You think Florida State is going to hire Derek Dooley to replace Jimbo hoping he learned from his mistakes?

Hiring O as HC is a tacit admission by LSU admins that they do not view the program as elite.

Vandy would not have hired O as head coach...yet LSU did...think about that for a moment.

If any of those things happen, he better be removed. Im not sure if you couldve given a worse case scenario for him!

Do you think any of those are acceptable, while he learns the job?

Record will be important. But, if we win 8 games for 2 years and recruiting is tanking...fired.

What qualifies you to make this statement?

I mean...I have ears and eyes. I'd say the search most def didn't pass the eye test.

who gives a shite who Vandy would or would not have hired?

We didn't land Herman or Jimbo

we're stuck where we are so we may as well hope that it works out and might as well allow O some time to see what happens

Bama will have to replace Saban one day and that coach will not measure up. They will have their own issues then, but that has nothing to do with LSU

Edit: I have to think that if we did hire someone other than the names I mentioned, we would be in the exact same boat. We wouldn't have a much better idea of what to expect and would still be getting ready for the new coach to fail rather than hoping for better results

Good strategy:
1. hope it works out for the best;

2. wait for Saban to die.

absolutely nothing suggests that he is in over his head

Well, except for his prior HC stint in the SEC.

His efforts (and apparent belief that he could) hire Kiffin suggests to me that he is in over his head and is capable of terrible judgment on hiring matters.

Really? I mean, really? It's been pointed out ad nauseam. You don't want to accept it, which is fine. I certainly hope I'm proven wrong, because it will mean LSU is successful, but don't stick your head in the sand and act coy.

So you used anecdotal evidence to rule out a qualitative or quantitative search?

We also have media reports and the actual end result, so it's not like it's a far fetched assessment. However, point well taken that we do not know for sure.

Your posts suggests that you have proof that an exhaustive search was conducted. Please share your insight.

Bottom line...is he on a short leash?

I honestly think he will be after this season. We have 6 home games and some tough road games. Given the quarterback situation, I just do not know how this team will fare with @ Florida, Auburn (my pick to win the SEC), @ Alabama, and maybe @ Tennessee.

If LSU drops 3 or all of those...you're going to have some unhappy fans.

Or maybe...they hired him because they thought he'd do a good job

Pretty crazy, huh?

If he has a losing season this year, he will be gone. Realistically, lsu should never have a losing season.

Saban was the GOAT coach when LSU hired him.

Are you seriously going to compare the two situations in their entirety? For your sake, I hope not.

This is total nonsense. The team can't possibly have a losing season. Do you know anything about this team?

He is the only head coach I've ever heard of that convinced those hiring that he should be hired BECAUSE HE WILL NOT COACH.

His whole pitch is that I will stay out of the decision making on offense and defense.

I really don't get how people are ok with this. Makes no sense that we'd prefer our Head Coach to have little input on how we play the game.

Along with relying on the Coordinator's sticking around AND constantly hiring them.....Are we sure they can work together on a gameplan that makes sense if you don't have a head coach making big, overall decisions about how we approach opponents? Will our identities be too different? Will the offense do the right things to put the defense in positions it wants to be in? Will there be clashes over who gets credit?

Because credit can't really go to Ed if he is taking a backseat in gameplanning. How do you manage those egos?

There are just too many questions with this structure.
