OT Watch baws...want to treat myself to something nice

I'm about to take the next step up the professional ladder in my career and I wanted to treat myself to something nice. Part of me thinks it is silly to spend a lot of money on a watch, but the other part of me thinks I deserve it. I also would love to hand down an heirloom that I never had when I have a family.
As far as choice, Rolex obviously stands out. They hold their value and are beautiful pieces. Not stuck on any particular brand nor style yet.
Help a dude out.

What do you want people to think about you?

Omega. Not Rolex.
Rolex is like the BMW 3 series of watches. Not a bad watch, but every Tom, Dick, and Harry with some folding money gets one to appear in the in crowd.

Look up Montblanc Meisterstuck watches. You don't see many of them.

I looked at a few of those when I was in Asia recently. They are nice, for sure.
Like I said, I am open to suggestion. Admittedly, I know nothing of quality watches.

If you're looking for a diver watch, look at the omega seamaster planet ocean

Gold or Silver?
Large or Extra Large?
Do you want something that is dressy?
Or something more casual?
Budget?

#1 & #2 priorities--sapphire crystal and automatic movement is a must. Marathon and Hamilton are entry-level for what you want. $500 minimum to get that.

Patek Phillipe
Seriously though, you need to post your budget for this purchase.

There are so many options. What are you actually willing to spend?
Rolex is a great brand and all, but I would never actually buy one. Too much of what everyone who doesn't know anything thinks of as a nice watch.

Is grease splatter still going to be an issue?

Agreed
I'd get a Speedmaster Meteorite if I could find one:

Large and dressy don't really go together, but it depends on your definition of large. Dressy needs to stay under 42mm and traditionally is less than 40mm across.
Two recommendations:
More dressy:
Jaeger Lecoultre Master
Less dressy but certainly can be worn with a suit, expecially if you put it on a leather band:
Rolex Explorer 1

Omega Speedmaster has been a watch that I have thought about for a while. When I get to a mile stone where I want to reward myself, it is the watch that I will probably end up buying. Incredible history. Also, significantly below your range. It is kind of a "common" nice watch. That's just kind of an affect of how popular and how much of a classic it is.
Blancpain, Breitling, Rolex, Grand Seiko was a great recommendation. These should all be around that range I guess.
