Seriously congrats my man, some people can defy odds and be happily married or happily single

All I'm saying is that I can understand why most guys think marriage doesn't work and is a terrible idea.. the problem I have with that is that too many guys expect too much out of a marriage or are just so hell bent on getting married that they often 'settle' or get married for the wrong reasons which leads to most of the problems people here are posting about (which I agree, happens a lot in marriage)
I get that marriage isn't for everyone, hell there are times that I wished I was single again too, but when I see my fiancé and our young son (yes, I had a child out of wedlock, shoot me, but we've been together almost 8 years) those feelings go away...
I'll use my best friend as an example: he'd always see me and my SO and our son and tell me over and over 'man I want what you have so bad (a good woman and a healthy, beautiful son).. so what did he do? The next girl he dated, they got married after about a year of knowing each other... turns out, she's a vegan SJW and he is a typical SELA outdoorsman... he's miserable right now and can relate to most of the negative feelings about marriage that are posted in here but it's his own fault for being in this position

Indeed.
I'm not one of those "marriage is the key to happiness" folks. Being married isn't for everyone. Neither is being single. There are pros/cons either way.
Don't get the constant tearing down for either lifestyle. It's so stupid

You're right, to call you selfish and self centered was wrong on my part, so sorry...
I just don't agree with your line of thinking and I should have explained myself better

Bunch of lucky s.o.b.'s on this board.

I will say this about the single man's argument:
I sure do fricking hate having to go to all types of functions with my SO that I had no idea about until the day before... it's like, frick, I already have the boat loaded up and ready to roll for the morning, why do I have to go to your 2nd great aunt suzy's 86th birthday party

I married a planner--I know about grandpa's birthday party 6 months in advance
Gives me time to brainstorm some excuses if I need 'em

I don't regret it one bit. The good far outweighs the bad

Ah yes, I'm the envy of all my friends since my divorce. But most married guys forget what it's like to be single. When I don't have my kids, I come home to an empty house. No one to talk to. There's no dinner ready for me to eat. My clothes aren't ironed. My house isn't already clean.
Yes, you can go out and meet girls. And sure, it's good for about a minute. But after so long, you get tired of that shite too. Then you think about how nice it would be to meet that one person that you just click with, that you could see yourself being happy to see their face every day. Timing, situation, the right person, it's damn near impossible for all that to line up. Then you start to notice all those sad older guys at the bar, acting a fool. And you pray that God will not let you be that sad looking old guy in the goofy shirt one day.
I don't regret getting married. I just regret marrying the wrong one. To me, marriage is awesome if she's a good woman and treats you right. So my advice for the married guys is if you have a good woman, thank the Lord for her every day.
I met and married the perfect girl, and this right here why the answer is a resounding "no"
Do I think about my single days? Hell yes
But the fact of the matter is, in the words of silk spectre:

I'm 65 years old. Everyday the future looks a little bit darker. But the past, even the grimy parts of it, well, it just keeps on getting brighter all the time.
We have what I like to call "the pasts eye" where we forget the dark moments of our past, and idolize the "fun" things we did.

Most of the time she's good about it, but she can't understand why I get mad when I have plans already, but I can't follow through with them because she forgot to tell me it's like she knows I'm gonna have a good reason not to be there if I have time to think about it

Honest answer: Women benefit way more than men in marriage and in divorce. Women have it easy, always have and always will. I'm married and happy to have the woman I have. Lucky, but I was also picky and didn't date much or try to slay pussy all the time. I had standards and expected my wife to have the same. So, 20 years later. Happily married and still have sex alot especially for people my age.

Married guys, do you regret getting married?
The guys that will tell you how bad marriage is are either....
A. Single never married
B. In a bad marriage
C. Divorced
So you are saying that men who are enjoying marriage will say good things about marriage?
Brilliant.

The majority of the anti-marriage guys who are picturing themselves to be like Don Draper in their 40s are going to end up much closer to the forty something year old creepy guy at the end of the bar.

TbirdSpur2010 you seem like a legit good guy, very pragmatic. You always have insightful post.

Marraige is fun if you get married because it's someone you want to be with and you both are secure with yourselves.
First ten year of my marraige were best years of my life. Wife made good money and worked a lot of weekends - basic rule was weekends she was off we hung out with friends or just each other, weekends she was working I rode my bike and camped, partied, watched football did anything I wanted. Only rule was if I was going to be home past 10 to just stay the night somwhere else so I didn't wake her up since she worked long shifts.
We took vacations all over - Mexico, Gulf Shores, Lake Tahoe, Vegas, San Diego, ski trips you name it.
Marraige is fun if you go in with the right mindset and don't try and rule each other.
Had a kid this year. frick my life it's pretty much ruined. I'm like Hiroshima after the A-Bomb. Love the kid to death but goddamn that's the thing that you gotta worry about not getting married.
