Honestly ND would be stupid to fire Kelly. Hell, he wouldn't be far down my list to hire at LSU.

They were a last second loss to Stanford away from possibly going to the playoff last year. Seems a little crazy to fire him unless they really melt down

And yet he will still get another job. Crazy how people just fail from job to job.
It's amazing the job security football has.
It's like no one wants to search for talent...that would take too much time and apparently there's some union that colleges first have to look at other college coaches before high school.
So getting to college is a huge coup - then you have a safety net...and of course college to Pros...that's like guaranteed job forever...they just recycle each other in their little club...once and awhile they will poach a college guy - but only if he has NFL experience. Getting fired in football is just an invitation to another immediate job.
Has there ever been a known coach who was fired who couldn't get another job? I can only think of Woody Hayes...punched a player...And Tyrone Wittingham - well, he sucked so bad...
But alas...he never lost a paycheck...Willingham currently serves as a member of the College Football Playoff selection committee and President of AFCA. These guys never go away. You are always with a job. You can suck so bad...and then be elected to pick the teams for the playoffs.
Coaching Football is the grossest incestuous unfair nepotism un-American lack of free market closed door fraternity business in America. But once you gain entrance, like the Masons, you are set for life. You are their brother.
Because it's always somebody's son, somebody's brother. Sabans, Kiffins, Ryans, Wade Phillips, Schottenheimers, Shulas, Moras, Nolans, Bowdens, Shannahans, etc.

ND fans seem to think they can land someone better than BK (lol)
there is no one willing to go there, that is as qualified as he is.
USC and LSU are both better jobs, for starters

Wouldn't it be pretty ridiculous for them to fire Kelly this year? I mean after several tries they finally found someone who brought them back to relevance. Firing for a four loss season would seem extreme but what do I know
No. Why would it?
We know what we have. It isn't good enough. It's that simple. If we have to cycle through six coaches in thirteen years ala Alabama, then so be it.
He's a mediocre to above-average coach that is made to look a little better because of three dreadful predecessors. He's never winning a national title. Hell, I'd be surprised if he even was ever able to win a major bowl game or even make the playoffs even if he were to stay five more years.

He's done pretty good everywhere he's been including ND. not sure why you would say that.
PS: Scratch pretty good. He's been really good everywhere he's been.

They should fire the guy responsible for killing the kid in the tower on a windy day

I wouldn't call only one season in seven years with fewer than three losses at a program that recruits like ND does and doesn't play an exceptionally difficult schedule every year "really good". He hasn't won a major bowl game (and got embarrassed in both of the ones he has been to - very Weisian, actually). He has a losing record against the top 25 while at ND. All this while our two biggest rivals - SC and UM - have basically been dumpster fires for his entire time at ND (unlike Miles at LSU).
He's been about like Sumlin or Mora. That's OK, but at this point, we know what we have, and it simply isn't good enough.
It's the same shite every single year. Kelly's teams are undisciplined, turnover-prone, soft, and predictable.

Oh pls.
Nd was one last second losses from going to the playoffs last year. That's thier peak.
They are a fringe top 25 program, for the foreseeable future.
They will not get better than BK, but I'm sure their delusionist fans believe otherwise

ND should hire Cam Cameron to replace VanGorder. He's proven he can consistently shut down really talented offenses.

Yea, you're not the brightest bulb, so I'll take what you say with a massive grain of salt.
A team that consistently recruits in the top 10 or top 15 - and top 5 to top 10 in average player rating - is not a fringe top 25 program. A team that has put out the fourth-most NFL players in the last five years is not a fringe top 25 program. A team that is one of the richest, if not the richest, in the sport is not a fringe top 25 program. A team that's investing nearly half a billion in the stadium is not a fringe top 25 program.
And no, ND was not getting in over Oklahoma no matter what they did against Stanford last year.

And a last second play from beating FSU on the road, a last second play from beating Clemson, a last second play from beating a terrible Northwestern team two years ago, a last second play from beating Texas. Eventually close but no cigar doesn't cut it anymore.

I see Greg Hudson is the new dc..... He had a hard time staying sober the 3 years he was in Tally

Maybe I'm young, but Notre Dame doesn't feel like a part of college football to me. I have always sensed they're on "the outside looking in" and not really a part of the meat and potatoes or a true player in the game... More of an interesting sidebar that you pay attention to.
It obviously has a lot to do with their independent status in football, but I also think it has to do with a brAnd that just isn't as sexy anymore as other brands have gotten sexy and more national TV attention directed their way that was primarily almost completely monopolized by ND in the old days. When TV/digital wasn't as prevalent, they owned the marketplace.... Now that it is, they not only don't own the marketplace, they aren't even the centerpiece of the market anymore.
Blast me if you want, but I think Notre Dame as a brand in the context of football is in the same category as Nebraska, or maybe some of the Ivy League schools... Great pageantry great tradition, great history, proud fans, but the game and all the other programs have passed them by.
Just my 2 cents. I would be shocked if Notre Dame wins a national title in my lifetime, because the brand trend I speak of has no chance of reversing course IMO. Maybe I'm wrong, and I'm sure I'm not the first person to ever say it, but the "peak" of the Notre Dame brand and glory days have long passed and it will always be a program with a proud past and meh present.

In the context of every team and every game on TV now, not just a couple games.
I'm not talking about individual team TV ratings per se.
There was a time when your choices to watch games on TV were limited, and Notre Dame was certainly always one of the choices. Now, every team is on Tv and every team gets an opportunity to showcase its program. The whole landscape of college football and TV and "spreading the wealth" has had a slow erosion on the Notre Dame brand is all I'm saying. Others have caught up, and in some cases, passed Notre Dame, in the context of Branding and sexiness and curb appeal.
I just see Notre dame more as a priceless historical landmark that's nice to keep an eye on and visit every now and then than I do as a major player in today's more diverse and spread out college football landscape. There was certainly a time when ND was the big dog on the block, but they aren't anymore, they're just one of many big dogs, and quite a few of those dogs are bigger now. And the process of that happening and the reasons behind it aren't reversing course and this slow passed by as a brand is only going to continue.

Did the AD mentioned that Brian Kelly killed a kid?
