Find a case of protein deficiency without starvation? I got all morning.

im not talking protein deficiency i was talking about where you said you only lose muscle if you are starving. there are plenty of studies that show you burn muscle on a large deficit combined with intense cardio.

That isn't what you responded to. I can quote it for you again:
quote:
Science has shown us we need a minimum of .8g per pound of lean body mass to maintain muscle under normal untrained conditions.
Also, you seem to be under the false assumption that the body just wastes protein it can't immediately use.

exactly, the body doesn't waste protein like so many people think. Just takes the body a long time to digest it. plenty of studies show this. But honestly we are wasting our time here, this guy thinks the only nutrition we need as adults looking to build muscle is the same as whats in breast milk.

There is nothing wrong with breast milk if we get to drink it from the tap.

Carbs from breads and grains are the killer, and the idiot food pyramid the government pimped out for decades had it as the large base of the pyramid.

he World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that men and women obtain 5% of their calories as protein. This would mean 38 grams of protein for a man burning 3000 calories a day and 29 grams for a woman using 2300 calories a day. This quantity of protein is impossible to avoid when daily calorie needs are met by unrefined starches and vegetables. For example, rice alone would provide 71 grams of highly useable protein and white potatoes would provide 64 grams of protein.8
Just throwing that up there.

To me this statement is describing muscle wasting or atrophy? This is only during starvation. His quote was to maintain muscle.
No matter how many #Gainz he wants to make he cannot match the #Gainz he already made.

Our greatest time of growth—thus, the time of our greatest need for protein—is during our first 2 years of life—we double in size. At this vigorous developmental stage our ideal food is human milk, which is 5% protein.
He is not going to double in body size again at any point. If he does I would like to meet nd shake the reigning Mr. Olympia's hand. When he is done crushing all of my metacarpals, I will tell him I was wrong.
Again guys.... Eat your meat. It IS OK. You are all probably eating fairly healthy. But realize you are eating meat because it is delicious. you don't NEED the amount of meat you are eating. The protein you eat in excess just ends up in your piss.
I LOVE boneless chicken wings. They are absolutely delicious. But they are as essential to my #Gainz as a few IPAs or a pack of cigarettes.

You are right. I am not disputing the engine needs to be fed. But you are giving it jet fuel when kerosene would work.

When I think of boneless chicken wings, #GAINZ, at least the right kind, is the last thing I am thinking about.

Higher protein intake preserves lean mass and satiety with weight loss in pre-obese and obese women.
Increased protein intake reduces lean body mass loss during weight loss in athletes.

Beyond the zone: protein needs of active individuals.

Total (-3.0 +/- 0.4 and -1.5 +/- 0.3 kg for the CP and HP, respectively, P = 0.036) and lean body mass loss (-1.6 +/- 0.3 and -0.3 +/- 0.3 kg, P = 0.006) were significantly larger in the CP compared with those in the HP. Fat loss, performance, and most blood parameters were not influenced by the diet. Urea was higher in HP, and NEFA and urea showed a group x time interaction. Fatigue ratings and "worse than normal" scores on the Daily Analysis of Life Demands for Athletes were higher in HP.
Beyond the zone: protein needs of active individuals.

At the present time, substantial data indicate that the current recommended protein intake should be adjusted upward for those who are physically active, especially in populations whose needs are elevated for other reasons, e.g., growing individuals, dieters, vegetarians, individuals with muscle disease-induced weakness and the elderly.

For the average person, if you eat fairly healthy and watch your calorie intake vs. what you burn then you're ok.
If you go too low-fat while losing weight it can cause issues. I'm talking stuff like your hair falling out, gallbladder issues (from the drastic change in fats taken in), etc.

You are talking about starvation diets. which I am not advocating. GB issues are frequent in post-bariatric surgery patients as well. they ARE starving.

Except you haven't. But please post more excerpts from McDougall's newsletter
And no one's talked about Paleo.
You have no idea what you're talking about, which is why you didn't address anything in my post.

If you don’t know where you get your protein while following a plant-food-based diet, you’re in good company. The Nutrition Committee of the American Heart Association, scientists from the Human Nutrition Research Center and Medical School at Tufts University, and registered dietitians, research nutritionists and physicians of Northwestern University, and the Harvard School of Public Health are just a few examples of “experts” you look to for advice who have the protein story wrong.1-4 Consequences of their shortfall are as grave as a lifetime of sickness and obesity, and premature death, for innocent people. These professionals must be held accountable.
