one of the rules of gun safety: Always be aware of what is beyond your target.

Yes the father is stupid but the officer isn't completely off the hook in this situation.

It was a constable. How much training do they have?

I'm not going to put the blame on the guy who was probably scared shitless when some idiot comes at him with a rifle.

Once again I am not trying to blame the constable. I am saying the same thing I have said in the other thousand police threads which is that the people who we pay to protect us are not paid enough and not well enough trained.

the fact that the constable fired an unaccurate shot

That is an "unaccurate" statement.

So basically another story of an undertrained/prepared officer doing something terrible?

No. I've got a quick trigger on blaming cops for shite, but this is all on the dad.

Dumb SOB! Having to live the rest of his life with that will be pure hell.

Charge the father with manslaughter. Not the cops fault here.

I tell you what, I'll surprise you by pointing a loaded rifle at your face and I'll see if you check the entire area around me before you decide to engage me.

Some of you people live in a fricking Jane Austen novel.

They probably should. Could probably start storing some of that riot gear away.

It has nothing to do with fiction vs non fiction. It was a terrible thing that happened but no one can deny that his training was not up to par. FTR someone being paid to carry a gun and talk to people that are not abiding by the law shouldn't be all the shocked by someone pointing a gun at them.

How could anyone in this thread possibly know that?

Didn't all you Mike Brown crybabies ask why Officer Wilson didn't shoot Mike Brown in the leg or whatever and only injure him. Now this guy does it and oh no!

Look I think most cops and officials are corrupt pieces of trash, but this isn't on the constable. Guy points a gun at someone he's going to get return fire from anyone.

it's not a movie, this is real life. Someone points a gun at you, you shoot them.
Are you being serious that the constable should have tried to RISK HIS LIFE by talking to the guy that just pointed a gun at him, as opposed to shooting him?

Ok, show me his training records. You can't say any of this with absolute certainty, so you're looking like a fool once again.

And the person pointing the gun at them shouldn't be shocked if shite goes south in a hurry. Was he supposed to let this guy pull the trigger on him?

Since you're such a great armchair quarterback, let's hear how you would have handled it.

No just not but hell no! My point is that he hit the fricker in the arm instead of the chest. If he hits the guy in the chest the right person dies. If you are stupid enough to point a gun at a cop you deserve to die. The only thing I am trying to say is that it sucks that the constables training was not high enough for him to place a proper shot anywhere in the largest part of a persons body.

Anyone want to place a bet on what really happened? I find it hard to believe this guy answered the door with a rifle in hand.

I'm beginning to wonder if the constable did something stupid and entered the home.
