I've got a couple of them actually. As others have mentioned, maintenance costs are pretty high. They're very picky eaters and require more space than other big cats

My mother has a 2014 XF with the supercharged 3.0 V6. I just drove it to and from Orlando - no issues, very fun car to drive, pretty quick and nimble, and averaged 29 mpgs on the trip. The one hangup I have with it is the infotainment system...it's pretty bad...though I think Jaguar is changing it for 2016/17 cars.

I find that most of the imports lag behind in the infotainment department. I just bought the new Tahoe, and it was years ahead of Audi, BMW, and the Asians in inovation.

Get a BMW. The 6 gran coupe is nice. I think you have to go all the way to the M6 to get a manual transmission though.

Yeah, the 8.4" Garmin based unit in my Ram 1500 puts the Jaguar's to shame.

That doesn't even come close to being on the list of reasons I'd purchase a vehicle.

One more possibility: jag-wire.

Most infotainment systems out now are also the HVAC and heated/cooled seat controls, among other things. When the systems are entirely self-contained and the manufacturers offer few redundant controls (actual buttons/knobs), it becomes an issue worth looking into.

I owned a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland for a bit. Infotainment system screen was beautiful, but had plenty of quirky glitches - particularly with random appearance of flash flood warnings, and connection issues with up to date iOS devices. I have found the less flashy info systems on our MBs more reliable.

Since Ford sold LandRover/Jag to TATA, quality has gone up in those marques for sure. I have a 2013 RR Sport I bought CPO when I got fed up the air suspension faults in the Grand Cherokee and the terrible service and I don't give a rip attitude from the Jeep dealer.

Worst thing about it is that this is the default transmission setting EVERY FICKING TIME you crank it up. I reflexively immediately turn it off now after two years of daily use. Other than that, my experience has been wonderful with my 2014 model.

That's the one knock I've run across reading up on them. Though the salesman ran through a quick demo and it seemed pretty decent. I love the infotainment in my Vette but can't atnd the one in my kid's 'Stang. I know theh are supposed to have a decent upgrade in the '16, but it's hard to pass up a $12-15K discount on the leftover '15s. The Jag interior and dash looks so much better than the German cars. No comparison. The XJL Portfolio has so much room - practically a limo. We have been "casually" reading up on them and happened to see a dealer near our hotel in Hilton Head. Went and took a quick look, and had to go back the next day for a test drive and closer look. Left there wanting one. Damn fine vehicle.

Yes.
Ford helped the reliability issues by the time the 2002 models rolled out. It took them a few years. TATA ownership has also been good for the brand.

But shite just breaks. Clips and door handles are My mechanic is programmed into my phone and will come to me. Thankfully.

It's not a great set-up, but it's livable. You can mess with the settings enough so that it isn't as frustrating to deal with. I don't think I'd pass up the savings just to get a perceived better system in a 2016.

ETA: If you don't need the space, I'd look into the XF or maybe even the new crossover they'll be releasing soon. The XJ's are priced at a premium...you can save substantially more and have a much more fun to drive car with the XF.

We drove an XF S while we were there. Fun to drive, and if I weren't looking primarily for something to travel in, I'd go with a XF S for sure. Love it way more than the 5 series BMW. But the family wants the XJL Portfolio for sure, mostly due to the rear leg room. And it is a nice step up in luxury from the XF. That XF S was a blast to drive though. The massagers in the seats are a nice touch on the Jags. And that Panoramic roof is sweet.
