Hard of hearing worked great for me. Just keep asking, I'm sorry what did you say.

Saw this in action last time I got called for jury duty. Judge asked for the guy's reason and he told him he's hard of hearing. He plainly heard the judge's question, but then acted like he couldn't hear any other questions after the first one. You could hear "bullshite" being whispered through the crowd when that occurred. Judge still dismissed him from service, and the guy walked away smiling.

Why would anyone not want to serve on a jury?

I was on a criminal jury (even elected jury foreman) that lasted 5 days and it was enjoyable as well as educational. And an honor.

Apparently you can still get on the jury for a drug trafficking case even with a drug charge.

I served on the Grand Jury right outta High School. I wanted to do it. I had a part time job and I was interested in everyone else's BS at the time. One of the girls who got out of it after being selected came in dressed like she was going to a rave and wore an unpleasing too tight shirt. Bright colors. She said she just got hired at to be a barista and said she didn't want to do it. Judge let her off. The judge clearly said we couldn't use our job as an excuse. The girl pleaded with the judge for 2 minutes and tried make the judge pity her. I was laughing silently to myself. It was comical.

I still believe the judge let her off because she came in dressed like she just woke up from a massive. hangover and was ready to start partying again at 9AM.

True story - I've gotten out of 3 jury duties the last two years due to having law enforcement family. The defense atty asked the pool whether you could withhold convicting someone who had a previous charge (in this case assault on a cop) of the same degree.

I have only been called for jury duty onetime. I made the first cut, but once the ADA prosecuting the case saw me sitting in the room a deputy came over andquickly escorted me out of the room and said I had been released. I think it had something to do with sleeping with the ADA 10 years prior.

Only time I've been requested was shortly after I moved. It was for jury duty in Louisiana and I was in Texas. I just ignored the letter (it was sent to my parents house for some reason).
