Did Sean Payton and management panic this offseason ?

We lost so many close games last year . I think Sean Payton in Mickey Loomis panicked . We should've kept the core group together that we had last year and make one more run this year . A few tweaks were needed but not the 25 new players we changed . We definitely needed to upgrade the corner position and oline. But the CJ Spiller edition baffles me when we have Robinson who is more than adequate at a much lesser cost . Yes the offense of line looks better but I just don't think we should trade Jimmy Graham . You don't trade a red zone threat like him for a damn center .

it was a money thing, then it was adding 2 for 1, talent wise.
i didnt like any of the trades this offseason except Grubbs, but we've drafted so bad, this was their plan to add more talent. It's pretty much a rebuild, but can't really be labeled that as long as Brees is around

It wasn't a short term move. That's why people have trouble understanding it. We will make out much better long term without his salary. Plus we did get a Center and a first round pick that you conveniently seem to forget to strengthen your argument.

I couldn't have dictated it better!

Graham trade definitely seems more personal than business to me. Graham took the WR v TE ordeal personally then caused some locker room issues last season. Without that he wouldn't have been traded imo. I disagree that it was better for the team you can't replace Graham and he was the best in the league at putting points on the board in the red zone.

Anthony will be good soon. Like this year soon. He made a few mental mistakes but largely looked promising on Sunday.
Drew wouldn't make it much longer if he had the same garbage protection he's had the last few seasons. Unger has solidified this line. They looked dominant in pass protection.
I think we need weapons, but Jimmy was not it. We had the same problem last year, even with Jimmy there. Drew would get some good protection or escape the pocket and look deep... Nothing there. We need weapons on the OUTSIDE. Our RBs are more than capable of taking control of the middle of the field in the passing game. The problem is we can't go vertical on the outside, which Jimmy could not help with because Jimmy couldn't handle coverage from a DB b

I'll answer you in good faith, assuming you're genuinely asking.
Payton could've done what you're suggesting and yeah it's possible we would have been better this season, but that would probably have been it. The way I see it, Sean Payton wants another generation of success with this team. Not one more superbowl this year or next, but another ten years of relevancy in this league. He knew that to do that this team had to get younger, faster, and cheaper. What you're seeing is, I think, the beginnings of the what will be the foundation of the NEXT great Saints teams under Payton... at least I hope that's the case.
I think that if Payton wanted to try to win one more and then hang it up, then he would have taken your approach. What I hope this season means is that Payton wants to stay here, and coach here, and win here, for a long time.
Which is pretty much alright with me.

Trade Brees if that is the plan, by the time these guys are ready he might be done .

No one wants to hear trade Brees but if we are going full rebuild, it is the way to go. He would net at least a 1 and a 2 from a team that thinks they are a QB away from a championship.

I don't think we are going full rebuild in CSP's mind. I think Payton believes this defense can be great this season. I don't know that he's right, but I think that's what he believes. In a perfect world, I think he hopes we'll win one more with Brees and then Grayson will take over.

"Win now mode" for several years now. Not to complicated just frustrating at times.
People have so little patience and lack of perspective these days.

I agree with you, but if we're Madden GMs I would consider moving Brees and Robinson to Cleveland for a bevy of picks and some talent.
