i didnt like any of the trades this offseason except Grubbs, but we've drafted so bad, this was their plan to add more talent. It's pretty much a rebuild, but can't really be labeled that as long as Brees is around

I didn't want to trade graham either. But what we got in return was nothing short of outstanding.

What Saints did in 2013-14 was panic, what they did this year was complete opposite of panic. I don't like going for a bunch of big home runs with a salary cap. Saints actually got rid of some fat contracts and had a good draft. You really need alot of draft picks to build your team. It usually doesn't take but 1-2 years for players to develop enough to be good football players. Brees has, imo, 2-3 years of being elite, and at least another year of being good before he completely falls off.

Our Tackle situation should be really good assuming Peat develops for another 10 years or so. Center will be good for another 5-6 years depending on Unger's age. Of course we will need to address guard at some point. We should have a pretty dang good Oline by the time Brees is gone to put our new QB in. Payton needs to keep harping on defense the rest of Brees career so hopefully we will have a great one by the time he retires. I just wanna see us continue to have the type of offseason in the future like we had this year, minus the Gallette crap.

Eta: I don't consider the Spillers signing going for a big home run. He is somewhat expensive regarding running backs, but overall, not a bad price.

Panicked? We were picked by many experts to win the super bowl last year. Things just didn't work out, for many unlucky reasons.

what we lost was irreplaceable. the best offensive weapon in the teams history. Considering what we are left with, i dont really agree with you.

not saying i dislike Unger or the pick we made, but those type of players are easier to find.

Better think about getting him some receiving options as well.

We over paid for Graham, Gallette, although I can't remember when his contract was actually done, and brought in highest paid FS in league with Byrd, who I actually really like. We didn't have many draft picks either. Of course panic isn't really the best word of choice. My point of my previous post was just saying we definitely didn't panic this year.

He's 36 and we have been going in every year since 2009. That's why we are in the situation we are in.

I can't totally disagree with you.

But protecting your QB and having a good MLB are amongst the biggest needs for any NFL team.

The best weapon in the teams history is still taking snaps behind center. I get your point, but let's play a few more games and let the players try to get their timing together before considering this season a failure.

Jimmy Graham was making the Saints offense become too one dimensional. Plus, as pointed out, his WR/TE attitude wore thin in the locker room.

This Saints' team has much more upside potential with so many younger players versus trying to wring the last drop of competitive blood out of aging veterans.

Besides injuries last year, Sean Payton didn't see enough fire on both sides of the ball, especially the defense.

Younger players on defense are more aggressive and hungry for a playoff run many have never experienced. When a team gets the right mix of old and new along with good chemistry, then they have a real chance to go places.

Of course, the best example of this is the New England Patriots.

This year's team will be even better next year, but they will fun to watch this year as well.

Can't imagine how that's Graham's fault. He's not making them throw to him.

This current team? Hell no. With many more pieces added, sure.

I think we are caught in between a "rebuild" and a "one last run" mode.

Getting rid of Jimmy and Stills for all the draft picks was a good move, but we are devoid of offensive talent outside of Brees and Cooks. An argument can be made for Ingram and Spiller though. Our D has the potential to be good, but I still think we need one more linebacker and another pass rusher.

I don't really know how to feel. On the one hand, I see us being another year of adding more talent away from another run and on the other hand I see us in a complete rebuild
