So, you support a guy who shoots deer and leaves them where they drop with no intention of taking the meat?

did you even read? That would be against the rules/laws of hunting.

So big game hunting is akin to alcoholism? The only thing absurd is your response. If you're going to try and be clever with an analogy, at least pick one that works.

Not so fast. That money went to some shady fricks who poached the preserve.

In this case, yes. But most big game hunts, a large part of the money is paid to licenses for killing specific species. All these internet crusaders don't pitch in any money. The studies are there to show that nations who condone paid hunts do a much better job of preserving and growing the animal populations than the others.

This. Everyone I know that trophy hunts whitetails eats the meat. If they are committing wanton waste they deserve whatever punishment the law allows.

I think lion hunting is fine as long as it was done in an ethical manner. What this guy did was illegal and morally wrong. In regards to lion hunting in general, it is a decent source of income for the government in those areas and allows them to have resources to fight poachers and keep track of the species better. My dads buddy shot this lion last year. Number 9 in the world as far as size goes. He did it legally and ethically. Also, this particular one has killed a 5 year old girl and had circled the village 2 weeks before he got out there. He did the village a service and got a trophy from it. He paid his money and helped conserve the species.

I don't care if he was trophy hunting, didn't plan on eating the meat, whatever...he killed a tagged animal right next to a protected national wildlife refuge.

Can you honestly tell me he didn't know what they were doing? Bullsh*t. There was a collar around the damn animals neck...and he was bow hunting...can you honestly tell me he didn't see the collar before releasing? Can you tell me he didn't know he was right next to a wildlife refuge? F*ck that guy.

This guy has a criminal record for illegally taking large game in the states...screw him...I hope he rots in prison for years.

He essentially signed the death warrant for nearly twelve cubs, furthering endangering a species on the brink of collapse.

Yeah, properly managed big game hunting can lead to extraordinary conservation efforts...it puts big value on an animal that would otherwise be considered a nuisance.
However, what he did completely contradicts any and all conservation efforts in the area.

He cast a very bad light on all of the honest, conservation minded, and law abiding hunters in the world.
He is evidence for the "tree huggers" to use against us...his actions tug at a very sincere emotional place in the public's heart.

For the record...I hope he rots away in prison, either in the US but preferably Africa.

A bit dramatic, don't you think?

I would venture to say that some of the best hunting is right next to protected national wildlife refuges...

I don't think anyone here is defending anything illegal he did.

Yeah...we aren't that far from it. The OT thread does have a fair amount of scientifically proven stats about the severe decline in the African Lion population.

"African lion populations have fallen almost 60% over the past three decades, and as few as 32,000 of them remain in the wild, the International Fund for Animal Welfare said."

Yeah, it does...and I'm a hunter that has no problem with killing an animal. How do you think the rest of the "non-hunting" population feels?

It's actions like this that lead to outlandish regulation from "big brother."

An admission from Palmer...

"I had no idea that the lion I took was a known, local favorite, was collared and part of a study until the end of the hunt," Palmer said, according to CBS. "I deeply regret that my pursuit of an activity I love and practice responsibly and legally resulted in the taking of this lion."

The group then removed the collar and tried destroy it...

CNN

Again...he has a criminal record for hunting big game in the states in part because he lied to federal authorities about where he killed a bear, twice.

I'm not buying his story that he didn't see the collar before he released.
