That is a cool piece. He speaks a lot of truths.
New Orleans is a weird and frustrating place to me. I could never make it my home due to the lack of space, outdoor activities, and seasons, but it is most certainly a unique place. I do get frustrated with New Orleans' "laissez faire" attitude, but that also makes it also so special.
I completely agree with him in regards to "Tuesdays resemble Saturdays". Some of my favorite New Orleans memories were the random/relaxing spring/summer days when there wasn't a festival or a big event...the city was a beach. Those days...when nothing going on...were my fondest memories.

Lack of outdoor activities? There's all sorts of things to do outside in and very close to NOLA. Unless hiking is your only idea of outdoor activities.

This is the best thing and the worst thing about New Orleans IMO.
The relaxed feel and attitude is certainly something unlike any other city, which is what makes it such a friendly and likeable place.
However, that laissez faire attitude also brings the mentality of "sure, X is a problem in NOLA, but that's just part of the charm!" instead of actually trying to fix it. The easiest example of this for me to think of is the condition of the streets. They are easily the worst I've been on outside of a third world country, but no one really seems concerned. It's just part of being in NOLA.
That being said, I get the romanticism of the city and I always enjoy my time there.

I came from a place that offers this...
New Orleans really didn't offer much...at all...in terms of similar activities.

So hiking pretty much. Got it.
Just because our outside doesn't look just like what you're used to doesn't mean there is not much in the way of outdoor activities.

Couldn't agree more. It's frustrating because basic, simple tasks take forever to be completed. A basic simple task such as paving a 1/4 mile road or paying your electric bill to keep the lights from going out during the Super Bowl frustrate the hell out of me. HOWEVER, it is the one city that is known by this unique identity (maybe Key West?), and it's a part of the New Orleans soul and culture. A "go-getter" New Orleans just doesn't seem right.

Canoeing, kayaking, rapids, skiing, ice skating, snowmobiling, etc...

For the past 15 or so years I visit New Orleans about twice per year. My mother and father were married in New Orleans. It's my favorite place in the United States.
From my experience, Matthew is 100 percent dead on. I'm not sure someone could've said it better.

Well two of those things can be done here, so...
You could just go ahead and admit that you made a pretty ridiculous choice in phrasing, but it doesn't seem like you'll admit that.

Entergy had a device fail, it was 100% entergy's fault. Nothing to do with payments and such. Everything to do with a shitty utility.
