That made me miss New Orleans.... and it's only been been a couple months since my last visit.

This thread.

I grew up in a small town/suburb 45 minutes outside of Detroit. I was able to do all of these outdoor activities within a 30 mile radius of my home. I felt I was very complimentary of New Orleans. It's a very unique and special place to me.

I strictly said it lacks outdoor activities (that I'm accustomed to) and therefore I would not like to make it my permanent home. Does New Orleans offer running, walking, jogging? Sure. Granted, it's typically on a flat dirt path down St. Charles Ave (which is actually pretty great) or a nice two mile loop through Audubon Park/City Park. Or, I could always run down Magazine Street and dodge all the shoppers & bar hoppers and suck in exhaust from all the vehicles. Can I kayak in Lake Ponchartrain or the many mosquito infested swamps and crystal clear bayous? Sure.

Every city, theoretically, offers "outdoor activities". Some are just (substantially) better than others. Tourists seek out New Orleans for partying, drinking, festivals, food, music...not the outdoors.

Seems to be the case with many people who dislike New Orleans. It's not a suburb so it has urban city problems.

You just sound pretty ignorant when you minimize the outdoor activities available in and around New Orleans.

That would be like me saying all Michigan has is walking through some trees.

Michigan doesn't start until you get north of Big Rapids.

Do I? Then why are all the outdoor enthusiasts not seeking out New Orleans?

They are, just not the kind that you care about (your words). And since when did it have to be limited to tourists coming here strictly for outdoors? How many ridiculous criteria are you going to come up with to try to make your point?

So you have nothing but a played out gif and some random quote that doesn't address my question at all. I'm starting to understand why you don't understand the ridiculousness of your original statement that took us down his road.

Your edit and accompanying bold still don't address what I asked you.

So hiking pretty much. Got it. Just because our outside doesn't look just like what you're used to doesn't mean there is not much in the way of outdoor activities.

I know you are defending NO to another poster. I've been all over the country and my taste in scenery may not be that of the country as a whole but to me nothing beats Louisiana. As far as NO, it's the greatest city in the country. Many people who are defending NO are saying you have to get out of bourbon st and French Quarter to enjoy it, in many cases is true and there are many other great areas of the city but French Quarter, at least to me, is as awesome as you can get. I love it in NO. North La is great home cooking with laid back atmosphere and south La is same laid back atmosphere with beautiful scenery and some of the best food in the world.

How did a thread about a cool thing Mathew McConaughey said about New Orleans turn into a my city is better than your city thing? Give it a rest...
