So Coach O has been here approx. 6 weeks and he's responsible for dropping Herron's weight by 18 lbs? Gotcha

I am NOT saying you (or the trainer) are wrong.

But, I did hear Coach O on a radio interview and he was asked DIRECTLY what he was doing in this regard (gain / lose weight) nd what instruction he has given the players.

Coach O said he has not told them anything in that regard. That Moffit was completely in charge for Sprng.

he said ONLY after working the players out in Spring Practice would he make evaluations and direct players to lose / gain weight.

He said he could not make those decisions without putting them through drills and practice. He even said that watching film wouldn't do it. He needed to have 'hands on' with them to determine it.

THIS.

Listened to the same interview. He said some guys might need to trim down and get in better shape, while others might need to gain more muscle and get stronger. Every player has different things they need to improve on.

I agree. I like the big linebacker in the middle, but I don't want three of them. Much prefer smaller, faster linebackers outside.

That doesn't sound right. Why would you want smaller DT's?

The idea is that they become more agile and quick off the ball and consequently are better able to penetrate into the backfield or pursue a ball carrier near the line of scrimmage.
More stamina as well. Wont wear out as quickly.

That's what Grimes said he wanted on the OL as well....

Herron used to be a DE prospect at 240lbs. I think 50-60 lbs was too much weight gain. He can be a muscular 270 lbs and still play week side in 3-4 or strong side in a 4-3.

330 fatties who don't get any penetration suck.

290 athletic types who are quick are awesome.

Depends. A 330 lb nose tackle that can hold his space and eat up blocks doesn't need the same penetration. That's a game changing addition right now that not many NFL teams have.

But that's different than being out of shape. We'll have to find that balance

I think we'll have a lot of Mingo sized OLBs. Mingo was 6'5 about 245 when he was here. Expect us to get 6'2-6'4 athletic guys in the 230-245 range.

Trim down the DTs? Well ok

They better be able to squat 800 lbs and bench 600 to counter those 350 lb average offensive lines. Of course we once had people like Estay, Duhe, etal who were awfully quick enabling them to bust thru lines into backfields. Maybe that is what O is looking for.

Guys, quit blowing O. He's only been here about six weeks, and he didn't "reshape" Herron in that time.

I think that's why Freak made little impact during his tenure.

Geez, there's a lot of fail in here! Freak's physique was exactly what O looks for. He wouldn't have "reshaped" Freak. Freak sucked because he sucked.

Moffitt has a lot of influence and with Brick and Chief gone I think he's started to mold Herron back into the DE he's supposed to be that will fit the scheme better. Herron looked sloppy with all of that weight he had to gain.

Did he get snaps last year?

As I recall, Estay was about 225, very small by today's standards.
I doubt that he's going to that extreme, but I'm sure he's looking for a balance of size, strength, speed, and quickness.

He's probably talking about Gilmore and Bain.
