Late to the party, but why would you not want to live in Vermont?

It is a beautiful state with a handful of ski resorts and a beautiful college town in Burlington located right on Lake Champlain with the Adirondacks directly across the lake to the west and the Green Mountains to the east. It serves as a great backdrop.

I've actually yet to make the drive to Vermont, but I really want to in the spring. I hear it's beautiful. But to answer the question, I don't think Vermont would be the place for me to live because I prefer a bigger city.

Michigan is a shithole. Its real nice once you get north of Midland. but the people are stale and its just not as fun as it could be. Below Midland???? A shithole across the board. The auto industry sucks there, towns are full of crime and poverty. Detroit is just a bunch of hollow buildings... Its just horrible.

Never been to Michigan but I know people who spend their summers on the Great Lakes and it looks ridiculously nice there.

I suppose I could understand why someone would not want to live in Vermont after thinking about it more-and-more for the reason you just brought up. However, one would think there are several other states you'd rather not live in before Vermont.

I will admit, however, I would not want to live in Vermont outside of Chittenden County. While the state as a whole is beautiful, I'm not much of a rural person either and the rest of the state is just that.

Anyway, Vermont is home to some great breweries (Hills Farmstead, The Alchemist, Long Trail, Switchback, Lawson's, Fiddlehead, Otter Creek), a great college town with a good university in Burlington and the University of Vermont, a handful of ski resorts, plenty of outdoor recreation (running trails, hiking, mountain biking), and very safe state all-around (minus the heroin problem in Rutland, which is well-documented).

How can you say this? Its surrounded by lakes. Very beautiful all parts of the year.

So basically you're saying that 3/4 of the state is nice?

Metro Detroit, Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, etc are not high crime areas.

It's actually nice. I'm not sure I'd rather live anywhere in LA over this town.

Whenever we make the drive to Vermont most of those places are on my list to visit. Just did a trip to Maine last weekend and went to Oxbow, Allagash, Foundation, Bissell Brothers, and one other that was at the end of the trip so my memory of the name is a little fuzzy... But it was a great time.

If anyone says California, they just take politics way too seriously and care too much about what other people are doing. Even so, the central valley is one of the most conservative places in the entire country. The sierras are stunning and there is something to do nearby every weekend. For example within 3 hours I can go to Yosemite, see the world's biggest tree, go to the beach (it aint florida beach but still cool), go to world class wine tasting at hundreds of wineries, go skiing, go to the highest peak in the continental US, go to the lowest point in the western hemisphere..but because of the liberal whack jobs you have to read about in the paper, it's a terrible place to live

Truth.

The southern Arizona desert would be aweful I agree. Not a fan of Tuscon at all.

Phoenix gets hot as hell but the surroundign areas are incredible.

And northern Arizona, particularly the Sedona and Flagstaff areas have some of the most incredible scenery in the country.

Don't forget Grand Canyon!

Is there anything more breathtaking than that first time you see it in person and realize just how big it is?

I don't believe The Alchemist is open to the public, but you definitely need to map out beforehand when and where they distribute because beers such as Heady Topper will be gone very, very quickly.

Definitely plan out your Hill Farmstead trip in advance, though. That place can get awfully crowded because it is the only retailer with regularly available beer.

Understandably, purchasing beers from any of these two breweries is difficult. Hill Farmstead was named Best Brewery in the World in 2013 and Heady Topper by The Alchemist is one of the Top 15 beers in the world.

Was in Vermont in December and was lucky enough to get one of the last four-packs of Heady Topper at City Market in Burlington that week.
