They just didn't want to deal with McDaniels in restricted free agency this summer. So they decided to get something for him. That's it, plain and simple.

I'm just gonna keep stealing Glockner's tweets

@AndyGlockner So PHI has six 1st rd picks in the next three years + Noel + Embiid + Saric + globs of cap space, and people are laughing. Cool.

Hinkie's plan is smart and he gave himself a ridiculous amount of job security. He has two more years to see if this works.
I don't really get this complaint that's coming from the media and people in other front offices. First of all, Hinkie has only been the 76ers for a year and a half, so this is a lot of preemptive bitching. I don't think Hinkie is going to get 6 years of just rolling over draft picks and no results.
Who are the GM's of the NBA who got fired after 2 or 3 years that didn't involve an ownership change? It seems like most of these guys last too long as it is, it's petty on their part to be so upset about it this early.

Philly gonna slap Kawhi with a max offer this summer

They kicked the can two more years down the road. Boom delayed until 2025.

Yup, I liked the two other deals a lot. Most 76ers fans don't like the McDaniels deal but his contract status is what it is. Check back in 3 weeks too on Canaan, I think he could be like Covington where he just needed a chance to play.

Morey loves Canaan. Unfortunately, McHale does not. I think he could do well there.

theres no way this hasn't been posted but I don't care

People are laughing at the Sixers, but they realize that winning an NBA Championship is hard as hell. I really think this strategy could work. And if it does, it could really hurt the NBA.

Saric is officially the youngest player to ever win the Euroleague MVP
Noel's per 36 numbers are very good for a rookie PF, looking a future defensive stopper.
Most people felt like Embiid was the best player in this draft if he didn't get hurt.
MCW is one of the most overrated young players I've ever seen and he plays one of the easiest postions to fill in the NBA.

He's getting one from SA anyway

2 of those guys haven't even played in the NBA yet and the other is average.
Who knows what they have there

It could. It could fail massively. There's not really any signs it's working at this point.
Posted on 2/19/15 at 5:28 pm to SwaggerCopter
Exactly. Would you rather be consistently medicore or have the chance to win multiple NBA championships?
Posted on 2/19/15 at 5:28 pm to RTR America
He's absolutely right. I love McDaniels, but he was only a RFA, and then MCW could not have been more overrated. I have absolutely zero issue with the sixers getting rid of him, especially if they felt like he wasn't going to help in he long run.
Potential in 2016:
Saric, Embiid, Noel, Mudiay, 2015 draft pick, and a couple nice free agents. That team could do work.

I'll wait until they get one decent player before buying into the strategy.
The Hawks were supposedly mired in mediocrity.

Everyone keeps talking about this but the Suns have 7 in the next 3 years now? If the only 1st they traded today was the Lakers protected pick and got 2 back from Miami I am pretty sure that is the case.

Simmons: Don’t sleep on Dork Elvis somehow swiping K.J. McDaniels from Sam Hinkie. That was a total “look, you fricking owe me and I am cashing in” trade. Daryl just cashed in his Money in the Bank suitcase with Sam.

Simmons must've read my post here a few hrs ago.
