My sister n law and friends will be in New Orleans Friday thru next Thursday for the first time. I am looking for some good fine dining places they should be able to get into on short notice. Thanks in advance.

Go to OpenTable.com and type in the date/time you're looking for.

Just typing in 6pm on Friday night, there are lots of good options: Bayona, Atchafalaya, Borgne, Cafe Amelie, Coquette, etc. etc.

Should be fairly wide open. It's a week before Mardi Gras really starts cranking up.

Places on or near St. Charles might be tough to reach.
ETA: I lie, first parade that week is not until Friday. You're all good.

I'd try Herbsaint, Clancy's, and Gautreau's.

Agree on checking on Open Table and/or calling the restaurant. If a restaurant they want isn't available on one night, it may be on another. Smaller restaurants like Gautreau's, for example, might be more difficult to get the day and time you'd like.

They could probably walk in at Galatoire's on a Tuesday or Wednesday night and if these are first timers, they might enjoy that experience for dinner. If they're available for lunch, a lunch shouldn't be too difficult right now, except for on a Friday.

Commander's
August
R'evolution

Those are a few to try.

If they're staying in the GD, they should do Commander's.

One suggestion is to ask the professional chef in the group if there are any restaurants or chefs s/he in which she is particularly interested and then check those for reservations.
