That sucks man. What a difference in defense between this years playoffs and last years playoffs for the penguins.

Interesting slate of games today:

Rangers v Washington: hanks 2nd game back. Rangers played poorly yesterday but Washington really needs this win to not be a wildcard team.

Florida Ottawa: either team is still in it for the wildcard.

Calgary Nashville: preds need this one to stay on top of the blues.

Anaheim - NJ: Anaheim needs to win for presidents trophy.

Chicago - Winnipeg: both teams need this but Winnipeg needs it more.

Letang officially diagnosed with another concussion, released from hospital this morning.

Can't see him returning this year in any scenario.

Letang’s got to be thinking about calling it a career. Two concussions this season. 5 overall I think?

Pens will likely start the playoffs with 3 of top 4 dmen hurt. Letang, Ehrhoff, and Maatta. Ehrhoff has been out a month from a concussion, tried to come back one game, and felt symptoms been out since. Just ugh.

I can't see this team even advancing a single round without Letang. So depressing.

Coach Johnston just said we may use Daniel Winnik on defense. Good lord.

Well, outside of the last two minutes of the 1st period, that was a lot of fun.

NBCSN. Sharks at Pens.

ETA: Brassard making a choking gesture after the Rangers went up 2-1 in the 1st. Yeah, that sort of thing never backfires. Rangers lose, 5-2.

Good win for the Pens last night, I was pulling hard for the Sharks.

Thought for sure the Pens were done when they took the 4 min penalty in OT.

Huge game tonight for us.

We've shite the bed against Tampa all year. Finally time to put some space between us and them.

Let's see if we can do it. A 5 point lead in the division would be huge coming down the stretch. Not worried about first seed. I just want division.

My lord Brassard is a dumbass for doing that.

Whelp in tonights action, a couple of interesting matchups:
St. Louis needs to beat Vancouver if they want to take 1st in the Central otherwise they'll have to face Chicago in the first round.

LA vs. Chicago: LA needs to win just to get into the playoffs

Tampa / Montreal: Look for this one to get ugly. Tampa has owned the frick out of Montreal this season, winning 4 of 4 so far and outscoring the Habs 16 to 5

That being said, Tampa has a bunch of injuries. Bolts will be fired the frick up after Prust's non-suspension against Bishop. I wouldn't be surprised to see one of their scrubs from the minors try to make a name for himself by returning the favor. I think a key in this game will be the health of Price - didn't he get banged up a bit in the last game he played in? If Tokes is between the pipes.....yikes........

The next time we need to see Tokarski in public is when they announce he is being traded or being sent to Hamilton. He just is not doing it this season.

Im scared to death of the CP31 flame out still, but who knows.

I want to see if the Habs have any type of fire in them, as this game sets up the playoffs mentality. Must win tonight.

Looks like Doan won't get a suspension for the Letang hit:

quote:

“It is not boarding, it is not charging, he doesn't hit him in the head. He finishes his check by shoving Letang and unfortunately, he falls awkwardly. It wasn't really even a violent hit, although resulted in an unfortunate injury.”

says the NHL. The only other call it could be is interference, but Letang was the last one to touch the puck prior to the hit.

That being said, Doan didn't have a reason to hit him, other than he was the best defenseman on the other team. I hate plays like this even though they are legal.

Seemed pretty standard to me, just very unfortunate for the Pens and Letang.

It's pretty standard, but it was a total douche move by Doan.

When you watch the replay a significant amount of time elapses between the time the puck is cleared and the time Doan hits Letang. I hate the Penguins as much as anyone on this board (save Baloo), but all I'm saying is Doan could have avoided that collision and didn't need to do it.

A few players didn't like it, said Doan was running around like a goon all game for no reason, but nothing you can do about that hit. frick Doan though.

The NHL is run by fricking cowards. I mean, how many players have to suffer massive head trauma before they take the issue seriously instead of just giving us some mealy mouthed platitudes before finding yet another excuse as to why this head injury was different, and this one doesn't merit sanction from the league? There's always a goddamn excuse of "well, there's nothing we can do."

Sure there is. Suspend Doan. Fine him. He hit a player head first into the boards well after the play. And while I realize sometimes bad luck happens, this was not an instance of a clean hit gone awry. this was a borderline hit that went horribly awry, and as such, treat it like a dirty hit. You play on the line, you pay the piper when you tilt over.

Letang is one of the best defensemen in the NHL and this is a career-ending sort of hit. I don't like the Pens, but I don't want them to lose because of a series of preventable concussions. I want to beat them on the ice. this is utter bullshite. The NHL needs to grow a pair and start actually putting some teeth into their head injury rules. Or else we'll see more of this:

Seriously, what about this hit is a hockey play?

Maybe they will learn when young players start retiring over health concerns like the NFL. Whole league is a fricking joke on so many GD levels.

Nothing. That's my point. That's what is so fricking frustrating.

But the NHL has clearly shown that they will hide behind the rule book the only thing they could do is unsportsmanlike?

It's not interference, it's not boarding, it's not charging. It is, however unsportsmanlike.

So what's going to happen next? I'll tell you what's going to happen. Next season, the first time Arizona goes up against the Penguins, be it a pre-season game or regular season game, someone on the Penguins roster is going to get retribution and make Doan pay. So now instead of one crushing injury situation to one of a team's best player, now you have potentially two. It's sickening that they don't try to rectify it.

I'd like to see Doan heavily fined. A suspension isn't going to do anything except start his summer vacation early.
