Big night. Everyone is in action, but check out how tight the standings are past the top 3, games left in parens

Isles 93 (8)
Pens 91 (9)
Wings 90 (10)
Caps 88 (9)
Sens 85 (10)
Bruins 84 (9)

Every team is in action tonight (Isles v. Kings, Pens @ Canes, Wings v. Sharks, Caps v. Devils, Sens v. Rags, Bruins v. Ducks). This is a HUGE night for the Eastern conference.

The Sens are just ridiculous. Seven straight wins, and 15-1-1 in their last 17. They've earned 31 points in 17 games, which is nigh on impossible. FIFTEEN-ONE-and-ONE. I can't even comprehend that. That's 1980's Oilers good.

Disagree. We were up 2-1 and not even plAying our best hockey. Preds tied it up with a Real nasty shot that changed direction and speed that was deflected. Nobody woulda stopped it. Then PERNELLS penalty in OT did us in. I knew we were done when they went on the 4 on 3 pp. PERNELL might have done better to not even commit penalty and let guy shoot. Good chance CAREY stops it
Who knows what woulda happened in the shootout. It was a good game overall by both teams. Both looked strong. Shea has a nice shot from point.

Can we end the night, like, right now and have all the scores count? Pretty much everything is going perfectly for the Caps right now in their game and in all scoreboard watching games. This means, of course, it will all turn out very very bad by the end of the night.

But right now the Caps are winning and the Isles, Sens, Pens, and Wings are all losing, and the Bruins are deadlocked. This is the hockey gods getting my hopes up so they can be more effectively crushed.

I swear to God, the Caps allow more goals at 6 on 5 than any team I have ever seen. That's got to be at least the 5th time someone has forced OT on the Caps with the xtra skater. It's infuriating. Still won in OT, but geez. No need to make us sweat, guys.

Great night for Washington. Sens, Isles, and Penguins all lose. Wings are losing. Bruins blow their lead in the final minute, so maybe OT can go our way...

... AND IT DOES! BRUINS LOSE! BRUINS LOSE!

So with the Wings loss in regulation, here's where the East stands...

Isles 93 (7)
Pens 91 (8)
Wings 90 (9)
Caps 90 (8)
Sens 85 (9)
----------------
Bruins 85 (8)

If the Bruins suddenly turn things around and go 6-2 down the stretch, which seems well outside what they are capable of right now, they will earn 12 points and finish at 97. Even then, to miss the playoffs, you would need the Sens to also earn 12 points in 9 games.

So, let's just assume that if you reach 97 points, you are virtually assured of a playoff spot (that would be a record for highest point total required). That means that all you need to do is play at less than a point/game pace. And even then you only miss if both the Bruins and Sens play insanely great.

Went and watched my first NHL game in Buffalo tonite with some guys from work. From what I understand Buffalo and Arizona are two of the worst teams in the league but it was a fun experience.

@ArponBasu: Sixth time #Habs hit 40 shots on goal this season, Tokarski was in nets for three of them (vs BUF, OTT and WPG) and lost all three (0-2-1)

Always brilliant to play the style of D that allows 40 shots a game on your backup
