The wife and I are thinking of buying some propery/lot to build a lake house in Louisiana or Mississippi for a retirement escape in the future. If you had the choice, which lake would would purchase property on that has good fishing and great views ??

I live on the water in Bay Saint Louis, can't beat it between the fishing, water sports, restaurants, casino, bars, beach, etc

look in the Garden Isles area if you do look at BSL, multiple waterfront "camps" around me for sale in the 100-200k range with access to both salt and fresh water

find a spot on a Red River oxbow. No hurricane or flooding concerns, plus access to river for fishing and recreation. Anywhere from Shreveport to Marksville.

My Dad lives at Poverty Point. There are some great sunsets out there. The fishing is pretty good as well.

We went with Toledo. Bought on the La side though mostly because my whole family all have their camps together and we found 3 acres within a mile by water from them. We looked at the Tx side and it seemed you could get more house/property for your $ there however the damn taxes were so high on the TX side. Louisiana has an assessment freeze I think once you hit 65 (could be wrong on the age) where my taxes wont go up once I hit that age. We were just worried at what taxes might be later on after we paid for our house and still have 5-10k per year in taxes. Cane river in Natchitoches has some great fishing and very nice properties as well
