i read it as a friend or roommate complained about the ride they took, and thats what caused her to check on her own.

Is this the thread where you can't say a bad word about Uber without pissing off the defenders of a cab company?

Sounds to me like Uber gouged her. However, she should have stayed home if her funds were so light.

I thought it sounded like she rode home with friends, and they stuck her with the bill (or she offered).

Uber offers fare splitting, which might have helped her.

I can't hate on her low funds, as I don't make dick for money and I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with a waitress going out when she has ~$500 beyond her rent payment. But I wouldn't be getting an Uber if I was that broke.

I stayed in on Halloween for this very reason.

Also, frick this GoFundMe shite. Getting so out of hand. I saw one the other day from some girl whose dog died, and she was raising $300 for cremation and would use the remaining money on a tattoo in memory of her dog.

The people funding this are probably going to be short on their rent payments.

Birds of a feather...

Uber is cutting into my income. Maybe I can start one of these funds.

I think the key would be making dozens and dozens of small sob stories for people to fund.

Then pool it all together for a house down payment or whatever.

3 observations in this thread

1. yep, uber is like apple. you can't make a comment without 30 people saying 'DUUUH, UBER did nothing wrong, the drunk bitch should have known they'd NINE-tuple her cab fare at 3am when people are typically at the top of their game.'

2. i think there's some union/cab industry types that are pushing these stories into the spotlight so i wouldn't be surprised if there's something more going on behind-the-scenes to make these stories go viral.

3. lol at people saying a 20-something girl who doesn't make alot of money shouldn't be able to go enjoy a night out with friends just because she doesn't have much money in the bank.

there's holier-than-thou..and then there's the OT.

My hillbilly cousin started one to get people to pay for her to move to Alaska. She was asking for $20,000.

OK, and what the hell do you want Uber to do about it? It's not Uber's job to protect customers from themselves, but it seems like they still do a pretty admirable job of trying to do just that.

My response to this would take too long to write at this moment, but you should think about what you just said here.

I haven't used UBER yet, but don't they tell you the full fare in advance of booking the ride?

well nothing. they are reaping the rewards of not doubling..tripling...quadrupling..quintupling..sextupling..octupling...but NONUPLING the rate.

that TUPLE is so crazy i had to look up what its called.

thats just comical that ya'll think its acceptable for them to go up to 900% on the rate during 'prime time' aka bars closing.

its stupid tax for stupids right?

que?

so she's not allowed to have a social life because she doesn't make alot of money? i highly doubt she imagined spending $300+ dollars on a cab ride to get home from a bar.

when i was poor and living in houston after graduating college i went out almost every night with friends..thats kinda the time of your life you're supposed to be out enjoying yourself.
