Looking at purchasing a cast iron skillet and wanted to get the board's opinion on brand. Does anyone have recommendations?

Serious question: Is there any other brand of cast iron besides Lodge?

Oh, I always think of Le Creuset with the enameled cast iron. When you talk about black cast iron, I think of Lodge.

That's the most bang for the buck.

But get you some nice French cast baw, you earned it.

Griswold and Staub come to mind.

It's pronounced (low-dge).
Not (lah-dge).
In case anybody was wondering.

That's not the way my skillet pronounces it.

Lodge cast iron is made in Tennessee. King Kooker and Bayou Classic are made in China. FWIW Lodges cast iron enamel coated are made in China as well.

My enamel is LeCrueset. I have a lot of old Wagner and Griswold but I have some old and new Lodge. They make great stuff.

Lodge also is making a new line of carbon steel skillets. I've seen them, never used one. Similar to the De Buyers.

I like the antique ones. Smooth bottom. I don't like the rough texture on the bottom of the new ones. They don't cost that much more.

What size are you looking for?

Cajun Classic....I'm pretty sure it's made in Mamou and the 2 skillets I have are thicker than any Lodge I own.
