I remember seeing that on youtube a few months ago and remember thinking that it is a pretty neat idea...

I have a tough time thinking a bag of ice will last that long with you basically blowing hot air straight at it.

We have electricity at our family spot. My mom and uncles and stuff have big campers.
Thennnnn why not buy a window unit?
ETA: just saw the tent bit.
If you are savy with electronics, look into Peltier chips.
They are solid state (no moving parts) electrical components that transfers heat from one side of it to the other.
You can probably build a decent heat pump box that blows hot air outside and cold air inside without having to worry about ice. Maybe even integrate cold storage for food stuffs on it.
Make sure to use heat sinks on the hot side though. It moves a LOT of heat energy, so if you don't put effort to effectively dissipating it you'll fry the chip.

If you put 2 frozen gallons of water and a bag of ice with rock salt on it, it will last about 6 hours. Rock salt will keep the ice frozen for a while.

Salt just makes the ice melt quicker.

Pretty cool idea if the ice holds long enough to enjoy. Report back with results

I love it.
I have seen something similar on a Polaris Ranger. 6" flex duct going in and out of an ice chest. The faster the guy went, the more cool air he got.

I made one out of 3/8" stainless tubing, an air hose and an old water cooler.
Wrap the tubing around a 6 5/8" pipe to make it into a coil
Remove spiget from water cooler and drill an additional 3/4" hole about 3" from top of water cooler.
Run air hose (inlet) through where hole in the spiget was and attach it with a hose clamp to the bottom of the coil.
Run an air hose to the top of the coil (outlet)
Fill cooler with ice water
Turn the air on low and you have a hose blowing cold air till the ice melts....... 5-8 hours.

Have you tested this? When I did research on these before the summer, I read that these are very ineffective in humid climates (especially at night) like Louisiana and Florida.

That thing really blows cold for 6+ hours? If I had to guess, I'd say MAYBE 2, if the air in the room is already cool.

It's important to remember to pre-cool your air.

I want to make one, but have no use for it. Maybe next summer if we set up a hang out tent outside the camper.

No shite eh?? Doesn't every camping spot have a walk-in cooler for this??

Damn, some people are gullible...
Next thing you know he'll be telling us how to fix a crack in our windshield with a vinegar, flour and nail polish remover mixture. (my mom sent that to me on FB last week)

Glad you didn't use a Yeti, it may have reversed the global warming....
Very cool idea and hope it works for you!
