The New Orleans station WVUE, Fox 8, went dark for DirecTV satellite television subscribers at midnight Monday (Sept. 1) as the company that manages the station and the satellite company failed to reach an agreement on the fee DirecTV pays for WVUE's programming.

A statement on WVUE's web site said negotiations are ongoing. "We are working to reach an agreement and will keep you updated," it said.

DirecTV also issued a statement, referring to its negotiations with Raycom Media, the company that manages a group of stations, including WVUE:

"Raycom Media is denying DIRECTV viewers access to WVUE unless they pay more than double just to receive the same FOX shows that remain available over the air for free. We will always work to protect our customers and prevent them from enduring any unnecessary interruptions, no matter how brief. We appreciate their patience because it will have a direct impact on their bill."

Last week, the vice president and general manager for WVUE, Sandy Breland, expressed Raycom's position in an interview with NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune: "We work very hard, we spend significant dollars, to provide top-quality news, weather and local programming. DirecTV delivers our programming for a fee, and we are simply asking for fair market value for our programming."

Tom Benson, owner of the New Orleans Saints, also owns WVUE through his Louisiana Media Co. The station entered into a shared-services agreement with Raycom, based in Alabama, last year. The Saints' season opener is scheduled to air on Fox 8 on Sept. 7.

i have a different viewpoint because i work in the pay TV business and deal with all these providers every week

DIRECTV is far and away the luxury brand and they act that way with their employees. they are on a different level to deal with from my end. first class all the way

DISH is better but not as good. Their owner is a piece of shite and its been voted worst company in America to work for two straight years. google it

Cable companies including Cox are losing customers as fast as you can say Cox. they always have the worst reviews, picture is shite as well. Satellite and Fiber are the only way to go for TV, they have 10x the resources that cable has. Cable has great internet and phone but for TV if you went around my work and said Cable is superior to satellite and fiber you wouldnt be able to hear for a minute or two because of the laughter in the building

with these disputes, you have to see the other side of things

its a no win for DIRECTV and dont blame them for doing it. when a broadcaster wants to renew and comes back with a 3 or 4x hike on rates, is DTV supposed to bend over and take it? if they do then guess what, your bill goes up because of it and you get pissed. if they say enough is enough and take them off the air until they get their head right, then they are the bad guy again because you dont have programming

trust me it will get done any day and you will be able to watch the saints. quit freaking out, this shite happens every month in the business.

if you saw both sides of it you would realize that the programmers are the enemy 90% of the time.

Eatel - overpriced; no MLB or NBA network.

I still use it but Cox or ATT have to be better than eatel.

The problem I have with DirecTV is threefold:

1. 2-year contract, but raise rates about $50-$100/month after year 1.

2. No WatchESPN

3. CenturyLink is complete shite when it comes to internet speed. That's the only bundle offered.

I still have it on mine. The local Fox channel here in town.

I did lose the local NBC station but I'm ok with that. The local news here is atrocious. The CBS and ABC stations are from either Lafayette or Alexandria.

I called them this evening and asked if I could get an NBC station from somewhere else in the state but the lady said the FCC doesn't allow it, if local channels are available in your area. She said usually these negotiations are met pretty quickly though.

Fox was on fine for me yesterday, I thought it was CBS? If both they're getting a call today.

If it's just local Fox; buy a sub $10 antennae.. not worth cancelling and you will probably get better quality hd.

DirectTV just lost NBC here in Lake Charles. Might be switching soon if that isn't fixed.

But, to the point of the thread, I've had em all, Direct, Dish, and Cox, and I'd prob rate them in that order. Cox was terrible.

Greedy networks. DirecTV doesn't want to pay them outrageous amounts of money for crappy content and then pass the costs on to the consumer.

Fox is out in New Orleans Metro
CBS is out in Baton Rouge Metro
NBC is out in Lake Charles Metro.

ITS RAYCOM, not the actual network.

If Raycom manages your local affiliate, then thst why it is out.

Yes and you get paid from the stupid commercials we have to endure every 8 minutes.

Local Fox is free over-the-air. I hope DirecTV doesn't pay a cent over what they've been paying.

Here's my question:

If your local Fox or CBS channel is blocked or off the air due to the negotiations, do those channels also get blocked on NFL Sunday Ticket channels?
