I just looked through tons of cars from the generation, and not counting exotics, there weren't really any that haven't been mentioned.
I don't think collector equals exotic. A Duesenburg, Tucker or a Boattail speeder wouldn't be collectibles, they would be exotics. Meaning a car that was out of the ordinary realm throughout it's entire life.
A collectible is a car that an average person could acquire that has been deemed to hold value or even appreciate after 20 years.
I would say Porsche would be at the top of this. Any car that costs over $200k will ALWAYS be collectible.

My 944S2 finally started appreciating. It still isn't worth a lot but it's nice to know that when it goes into the shop for repairs I'm not throwing money into a depreciating asset anymore.

Great video full of future collectibles. The majority of this collection was set to appreciate in the coming years. It belonged to Paul Walker and Roger Rodas.

Pontiac G8 a.k.a. Vauxhal VXR8 a.k.a Holden Commodore.
Believe it or not, it is a fantastic car. If Pontiac had more time I think the G8 would have potentially saved them.. As it is they are already appreciating because of how few were sold.

A fella in my neighborhood has a late model GTO (2007 or so ), real nice car

My friend Mario has one and swears by it. He sells Toyotas for a living and usually drives trade ins for a while. He actually bought the G8 because he liked it so much. Funny though because he was adamant against some friends buying a G6 convertible a few years back.
The G8 is basically the same car as the Caprice Police Interceptor you are seeing on roads now.

Such underrated cars... my 951 Turbo:
Several mentions of 70's 80's 911's in this post. In many ways I think the short hoods have started going beyond collectible and reaching un-reachable for the average Joe. A few years ago you could get a 911SC for $12K that was in good shape. Now a $12K 911 has major issues. The good ones can be $30K or higher. M491's can reach $60K or better. 930's are that and better. 993's are skyrocketing. The most underrated and current value is the 964 which I personally think may be the best looking of the bunch. Combines classic 911 with some hints of the latter 993. The one 964 that's held value is the Turbo and Turbo S (and even rarer flachbau). I'm just hoping that when the kids get out of college the 964 hasn't been discovered by the collectors yet.

There is a reason you don't see very many, they like to break. But they were so fast with the twin turbos. I saw one for sale last year on the corner of airline and foster that looked to be in ok shape.

Any Ferrari or Lambo qualifies; and for off road, Lambo LM002 was a great one in the late 80's. And for the ultimate off road, the new Mercedes Galenderwagen 6X6- Yes, 6 Wheel Drive, cost is over $850K too...

I've been seeing this one driving around central Tokyo. It's absolutely massive in person... as long as they don't produce very many -- and I don't see how they could find many buyers -- it will begin to appreciate soon. Portal axles from a military truck, 5 diffs, 9000 pounds.
