Brennan's in Houston.

This place usually is solid but the last time I went they were off their game. The waiter had a very obvious disinterested demeanor. Also, my brother ordered fish and it came out RAW. Luckily, they comped his meal without us asking, but for a fine dining establishment, that is inexcusable. The chef came to our table and apologized. I could tell he was mortified.

Not sure if a pop-up can qualify as fine dining. It was a full service dinner in a B&B.

Purloo, which is about to open (if not already open) in the new Southern Food & Beverage Museum was doing a pop-up on Prytania a few months ago. I decided to give it a try, was a set menu (central Europe themed) and BYOB.

The food was woefully average, being both bland and cold. I was especially disappointed as I was told the chef, Ryan Hughes, had a very impressive resume. Needless to say, I will not be in a rush to try his new place in the museum.

It was probably the most disappointing meal I've had in 2 years.

Okay...

Looking for something different and did not have our kids with us (and, trust me, mine [6th and 8th graders] enjoy a fine dining experience [e.g., Mr. B's, Fleming's, Ruffino's]). Decided to give this place a shot. It was so hit/miss.

Were seated relatively quickly. Ordered an appetizer that was underwhelming. Entree's - wife's was room temperature and had to be sent back. My chop was cooked well and was hot, not so much the potatoes that came with it. Bread was almost burnt.

Dessert was serviceable, but unimpressive.

Service was decent.

Considering the bill, and the expectations, it was very disappointing.

In no particular order, with a brief reason:

Daniel: boring food that skewed more Asian than French, shitty service and an awful table
Colicchio and Sons: Waiter spilled half a glass of wine on dining companion and then walked off, food was poorly executed, and weird plating.

Yeah i went to red lobster for the 30 shrimp deal. Wasnt going to cause i could give a shite, but friends from austin were in town doing the tourist thing and met them for a drink near clearview in Metairie and they were in the mood for seafood. i suggested Red Lobster half jokingly and mentioned the deal. them being on a budget, they agreed saying they havent been in years. we went. as i first walked in, i was pleasantly surprised. the hostess was frickin hot. i mean HOT! what this skinny tan brunette goddess was doing hostessing at a Red Lobster i will never know. she brought us to our table. we were given water with no ice. We wait about 6-7 minutes before our waitreiss shows up to take our drink order, answer questions, and offer suggestions. well, it takes another five minutes for this tortoise to bring us our drinks, which were weak and absolutely bland. this place was not busy AT ALL. kinda weird for prime dinner time in metairie for the best seafood in the world no? alas, our server should not be taking this long. but i'm not here for the drinks, i'm here to try the supposedly great food.

i should mention that while the waitress was finishing our drink order, some wonderfully smelling Cheddar Bay Biscuits arrived at our table and i politely mentioned before she left that we would definitely be needing more of these as we were very hungry. the smell was great, thats it. they were totally burned on the bottom i mean black around the edges and dark brown in the middle. the only edible part of the entire batch of Cheddar Bay Biscuits were the middle of the very top of the biscuits so much for these legendary biscuits. they were fricking horrid. when we get our drinks we are obviously. ready to order but we still have to wait for the waitress to come back, and when she does she wreaks of cigarettes. nice time to take a smoke break sweetie, and i see you were very well trained by this "fine" establishment. i go with the clam chowder and my 2 friends order the lobster and crab stuffed mushrooms and we all get salads.

for dinner we all get the 30 shrimp deal, and i get the scampi and mango jalepeno combo, my friends get a mix of those with the fried and grilled skewered shrimp. i should mention again that this place was not busy and every course took frickin forever. guess the kitchen staff was well trained too. the clam chowder was like someone poured cold frickin milk over raw chopped potatoes with maybe 2 stiff chewy pieces of clam in it with no seasoning. i almost spit out the first bite and had to use half of the salt shaker in order to force half of the rest of the the bowl down.

my friends didnt even finish the mushrooms, so i tried one to see how bad they actually were.. the presentation made them look disgusting, the mushrooms were severely overcooked and almost black, and the seafood was just over buttered and rubbery as frick. like chewing on silly putty dipped in melted cat shite and butter. the salads, a disgrace. i dont think i had one piece of green lettuce on my entire plate. it was all the white hard lettuce under dressed, and of course it took a decade to get my extra side of dressing that was the only option in finishing even have of this salad a dying rabbit would turn down. oh by the way, we still havent gotten our extra cheddar bay biscuits (CBBs). oh, and I actually slipped this waiter ten extra fricking dollars for extra biscuits. but I think they could be made better at home instead of burnt to shite at a RL.

I've heard such mixed reviews about that place that I still haven't tried it.

You solidified that I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

I have a hard time believing this. Every experience there has been an absolute stunner service wise even if you exclude the food(which was wonderful every time IMO). I think you must not be a very attractive or commanding person to allow this to happen at Daniel. :) I've seen people "handled" at Per Se, but never Daniel. I can only think it was a bad night- but can't really envision it.

That should have read more like a joke, because it would truly be crushing to have a bad experience there, certainly with the hype and the pricing. I really couldn't imagine it happening, or I think I would blow a gasket. I have had similar experiences at lesser restaurants, but not nearly as deflating as,for instance, going to the French Laundry and feeling it was a bad time.

F- Tom Fitzomrris. He pumps up what is not a doubt THE WORST of all restaurants in the state. Andrea's. That has to be the worst most miserable place ever.

I only went because my old G/T teacher plays piano there some nights.
Food was expensive and not even on the level of crappy arse Olive Garden.
I had a review on it somewhere. Had a four top, was $200 and everyone hated the food, but since our waitress only came to the table three times we never could flag her down to complain.
I always leave something, so she got 10% which is the lowest I go.
