I don't dropping huge dime on a watch. The difference in appearance and performance of a $100 watch and a $10000 watch is negligible to me.

My phone has a clock on it. My watch keeps time. I have to plug my phone in every night to keep it charged. My watch has a movement that is constantly working behind the watch face. It can keep time within +/- 5 seconds per month without any external power source. I'm a mechanical engineer and the scale and accuracy behind the moving parts are incredible to me. I paid a few thousand for my watch, but 95% of people have no idea because it's not a Rolex. I'm fine with that. The only time I probably look pretentious is when I get all excited explaining how it works.
