re: Arsenal 2014/15 Season Long Thread

he scored 7 open play goals last year in serie a. he may come good, and was probably worth the moderate fee they paid, but he's hardly the answer as he's still very much potential. i think we've got a plan, but we need CL qualification assured and a couple of RM/PSG/Monaco dominoes to fall first. if not, i'd fully expect to see sanchez/theo centrally a lot, which i don't mind at all.

God, I know nothing about football anymore.

Me either. I have to see Ox-Theo-Sanchez all on the field at the same time at some point this year. I think Ozil, with Ramsey and a deeper lying MF behind him, would create so many chances with that crew. It may not be 100 percent sustainable, but I want to see it. I think Sanchez is strong enough in hold up play for that to work in the right setting.

Balotelli at that price is certainly worth the gamble. He could end up prolific in that system or he could pull his typical antics and be a total cancer in the locker room. I think he had the worst conversion rate of any striker in the major European leagues last year. I could be wrong about that though or mixing up that Stat.

For comparison.
WhoScored doesn't provide Conversion rate as far as I can tell except for special graphics/articles.

He also played on a terrible team last season... I think he'll get a lot better service at LFC (and would have at arsenal)...
He seems to be the kinda player that probably plays up or down, to the level of player around him... Perhaps it's all wishful thinking on my part, but I'll take it at that price..

Yeah I would have gambled at that price.

Nobody is going to mention the Cavani rumor from today?
Posted on 8/21/14 at 9:28 pm to Jumbeauxlaya
it was from a BS source. all it said was that we had agreed to a fee with PSG. there was another BS rumor that said 40m + Giroud.
i think we may be in for him, but it's dependent on UCL qualification and Di Maria.

He's automatic from the spot, and y'all get penalties every game... so.......

Neil acknowledged the other bullshite source and said "I'm aware of that but stand by my tweet" or something.

It's only Friday, and pregame nervousness is already starting to take over. I know it's because of what happened last year in our big games away from home, but I just can't shake it that Arsenal are going to get turned over tomorrow at Goodison.
A win, and this could be an absolutely brilliant start to a season if we follow it up with Champions League qualification and then a game away to Leicester next weekend.
Could we actually be heading into the international break with 9 points out of 9 in the league and securely in the Champions League group stages? Dear Lord Baby Jesus, please let this happen!

I'm not optimistic. We've looked lost for ideas offensively since the start of the preseason, Benfica being the exception. And Arteta, who to me has been our steadiest player this young season, is out.
I really hope we see Rosicky and Ox get starts. I'd love to see Sanchez up top and Ox on the right. Ox can keep Baines honest. Sanchez loves to cut in so much I'm afraid he'll leave acres of space for Baines.
My ideal lineup
Scez
Debuchy-Chambo-Kosc-Monreal
Flamini-Rambo
Ox-Rosicky-Jack/Santi
Sanchez
Enough 4-3-3. If we get stale, bring on Campbell to play wide left as a second half sub to run at tired legs. I also think Giroud is more effective right now as a sub.

if ozil isn't ready to go, i want
szcz
debuchy-per (or chambers)-kos-monreal
ox-rambo-flamini-rosicky
sanchez
giroud
give sanchez the free role he has for chile, give jack and santi breathers in advance of besitkas, and have better defensive help on the wings, with additional speed too, to neutralize the threat of baines and coleman (if he plays).

Nervous as I am, when I think back to our game at Goodison toward the end of last season, I do know we will have a much better squad to choose from to get a win than we did on that date.
You'll remember that was Ramsey's first game back after his injury, and he didn't even sub into the game until it was already 3-0. The game was out of reach for sure, but Rambo was easily the best player on the pitch for either team once he came on, despite having missed 3 months through injury. He's in great form right now and of course will play from the start and lead our midfield.
The Ox also came on as a late sub in that game as he was dealing with some injuries at the time and didn't start many games late in the season. He's someone who I think has to start on one of the flanks tomorrow afternoon.
Ozil is still another player who was unavailable for selection as he was still out with his hamstring injury. I'm not sure if Wenger will play him from the start tomorrow, but having him available for selection and to use as a creative impact sub could prove huge.
And, of course, we didn't have Alexis Sanchez last year. His presence alone has already provided Arsenal with a deadly counter-attacking option and I could see him scoring his first Arsenal goal and creating a lot of havoc for Baines to have to deal with.

He definitely seemed to be a bright spot during the CL game this week (at least to my untrained eye). Hopefully he puts one in the back of the net at Goodison.
for Match Day tomorrow

Ozil is going to play. Just a hunch. Ozil giroud Sanchez cazorla flamini rambo then same back 4. I want ox or rosicky to start instead of Santi though.
