Some of yall know that we do a lot of bluegrass and old time pickin here on my front porch. I don't really think the music board is appropriate for this post simply because most of the folks there just don't have the same things in common that we all have here. But anyway, James Alan Shelton, lead guitarist for Ralph Stanley and The Clinch Mountain Boys passed away yesterday at the age of 53. I have known, picked with, and been good friends with James for 35 years. Pancreatic cancer is usually very fast and James was no exception. Five weeks ago, he was the picture of health. We have lost another legend. Thanks for allowing me to say a few words about my friend.

Sorry to hear that man. I would love to come sit on your porch and listen to that bluegrass. That's my cup of tea

I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. It's never easy, but it sounds like you have good times to remember and music that he can continue to live through.

And, this was the right board.

Good friends are hard to come by and harder to keep around as we get older.
Sorry for your loss.

I recently lost a frat brother from college to pancreatic cancer. He lasted 6 weeks after diagnosis.
He worked out a lot, was still the same weight as he was 25 years ago, never smoked, no drug use, not a heavy drinker. Another frat bro who is a doctor said at the funeral that pancreatic cancer is almost always a death sentence.

Best wishes to his family and friends.
