Since y'all just finished season 1, I'll give my thoughts. Seems like season 1 was a lot of them throwing shite against the wall to see what would stick. Though I still liked season 1 a lot.
I kind of wish they'd have gone more into Peter's past. They seemed to talk a lot about his less than legal jobs in Boston without going into much detail. I kinda thought that was going to bite him in the arse in season 1 and the fringe team would have to save him. Instead I think he beat up one dude and it was all over.
I just thought that'd have been a cool story line to keep going in season 1.
But I did like season 1. It was much better than season 4 IMO. If I had to rank the seasons it'd be:

Yeah Peter is one area I wish they'd have gone a little further into. Seems like more than a few times in S1 it was Peter saying "I have a guy" and that's how they got shite figured out. Hell, Olivia even jokes about it at one point.
But it'd be nice to know some of the specific shite he got into in some of his past.

I like your rankings and would agree with that. Except for the fact that I like 5 a little bit more than that....
Season 4 definitely has its moments, but it belongs on the bottom for sure.

5 was a great way for the series to come full circle, it was a little short though.
4 just felt off. I wasn't a huge fan of the new timeline and bringing Jones back. And I really don't know if I buy Bell being behind it the whole time. I think they could have built that up more. Though I guess it kinda makes sense if you think of Massive Dynamic just being a cover for ZFT/his plan the whole time.
Also, I was kinda hoping earlier on while watching that by the end Olivia would master the cortexifan and be a badass.

They wouldn't have had to get into a lot of details with it (that couldn't taken away from the main plots), but it was a little aggravating in S1 about how he literally always "had a guy," and we have no idea how or why...all we know is that he got into his share of shite over the years.

I blame Mark Valley for Scott.
And at least his plot got us half naked Olivia in the tank numerous times.

Peter past after he was taken from over there, doesn't matter to much, because he goes off and lives his own life, walter goes to the mental institution and the world is pretty quite with all of the pattern stuff (well sorta). It would have been cool I guess gut wouldn't add much to the plot of the show overall.

erasing peter from the timeline was the worst decision they ever made. You were developing a good system of Characters, than you change that to something different in season 4. (they didn't change characters but how the characters acted changed)
