Just playing devil's advocate here, but do we REALLY want to trade for an offensive minded 4 who is going to have a big fat contract and is already kind of redundant on a team with Davis and Anderson...

Is that really a move we need to make? I mean he could play C I suppose, but he ain't really a center, and he ain't helping much on defense (which is our problem)

if Monroe signed with Detroit for 4/$48m at $12m each year and we sent them Gordon/Ryno, how much cap space would we have?

If we sent both out and could get Monroe for $12, we'd be at $44.8 million without picking up any scrubs. Keep guys like Withey, Ajinca, Babbit, Miller and you probably add another $2 million and you'd have about $16 million in cap space plus the $2.7 million cap space exception to resign say Morrow, Smith and Luol Deng.

82 games has him net +16 at center (20.6 PER) and -170 at PF (18.3 PER) last season.

So:

Jrue/Rivers
Tyreke/Morrow
Deng/Babbit/Miller or vet
AD/Smiht or FA
Monroe/Ajinca/Withey

Not bad

I'm just saying, he's 6'10-6'11 and he played PF this year. And he isn't exactly scaring people in the paint on defense.

Is that REALLY what we need right now? On a huge 4-5 year deal that will handcuff us even more financially

His numbers will be all over the place because of Detroit's lineups last year.

If he, Smith, and Drummond were all on the court at the same time, Monroe would be the 4 with Smith at the 3 and Drummond at the 5.

That lineup was godawful, like most predicted it would be, and his numbers at the 4 reflect it.

Also keep in mind that Drummond can rebound but is otherwise a work in progress.

I think Smith is a pretty capable stretch 4 off the bench. He doesn't seem comfortable defending the paint, so I'd rather him be a more perimeter player.

I don't know if Reke/Deng would be an ideal wing pairing. Jrue would be our only competent 3 point shooter at the end of games unless they benched one of them in favor of Morrow. Ariza seems like a better fit, though I'm worried that he's going to get overpaid.

Well if you move Gordon salary into Monroe and then use the Anderson salary for a SF who can 3 & D we would probably be a really good team.

I'll qualify this by saying that any "insider" will probably end up being wrong, as there is a month and a half before any trades can take place, right? So its almost futile at this point.

Monroe can definitely play Center next to the right PF and SFs. He is a scorer, but he is also a very good rebounder and screen setter. Terrible defender.

I definitely question the fit next to Davis (and Anderson).

But at this point, if you can turn Gordon into Monroe, you have to do it. Monroe would be able to be moved if its not the best fit.

IF they are able to keep Anderson, Morrow, and sign a legit DEFENSIVE/3 Point shooting SF...

Jrue
Reke
3&D SF
Davis
Monroe

Some bench combo of:
Rivers
Anderson
Ajinca
Morrow

That is pretty goddamned solid.

You could also get a guy like Webster to play SF. While he isn't a good Defender, you would definitely be a run and gun team at that point.

Isn't it better than having Gordon who doesn't play an entire season and where Monroe can play C which is a position of need, Gordon is more redundant.

No question

I need to get off this thread. It's making me too excited for something that won't happen for a long time (if it ever happens)

I've also seen some speculation that SVG might go after Deron Williams.

Deron has a pretty terrible contract for his production at this point. Ok more than pretty terrible, god awful. So if the Nets are desperate to get rid of him (and apparently, they want to get rid of him pretty bad), then Josh Smith would have to be involved, plus other bad salary.

Its incredibly unlikely, but SVG might be able to turn Jennings/Smith/Monroe into Deron/Gordon/Anderson.
