Honestly, I really believe a talented, versatile 3 should be our primary goal. I mean, I wouldn't turn down a good deal involving a 5/4, but I think a SF that is a legit scorer (even our no. 3 option) and can provide lock down D is the thing that we need. I'm banking on development from Withey and, yes Anjinca, plus one more big, dependable body (solid player, no superstar) for rebounding and defense.

All of this
Centers not named Duncan, shaq or Olajuwan don't win championships. Put your money in the 2,3 and 4.

Damn I didn't think they could get any dumber, now they want to ship off Monroe for Eric Gordon. Next thing you know they'll give away Drummond for a 2nd RD pick. Does their management watch basketball?

I think our primary goal should be getting rid of Gordon's contract.

If we traded him for a guy like Monroe, we could flip Monroe more easily for a quality 3 or 5. (Ex. Monroe for Asik or Monroe. Or Monroe for Hayward, Jeff Green or Michael Kidd-Gilchrist)

MKG is too much of an offensive liability to work in our lineup.

Great post. Agree with it all.

It shouldn't be that hard to find a wing who can hit the open 3s Evans, Davis, Holiday, et al will provide and focus on defense.

agree

convincing gordon to opt out of his player option and getting his contract off the books before 2015 is goal #1...whatever it takes

i would be fine with sending him out for a draft pick (any draft pick) to a team with cap space. getting an actual NBA player back would be gravy

I'm not saying Monty can pull it off, but with AD, Monroe, and Holiday we could conceivably run the Triangle offense. Two long bigs who are both good passers and skilled offensively? Are you kidding me? just wet dreaming over here...

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The Pistons will get a better deal than Gordon.

Teams don't let go of young talented bigs for sgs with injury and attitude concerns.

There is a reason why everyone on this board would love that move, and every Pistons fan would absolutely hate it.

They are also first ballot hall of famers, who also had first ballot hall of famers on their team as well, Robinson/Parker, Kobe/Dwade, Drexler
I don't think anyone thinks Embiid will become any of those 3, and it would take being one of those 3 to win championships as the best player on your team playing center.

If they choose to hold onto him and trade him later I agree. However, Monroe can choose which teams he'd go to in a S&T and if the Piston's match his offer sheet, he'd have veto power for the next year. I doubt his position is NOLA or bust, but if SVG wants to clean house and put his system/culture in place asap and Monroe isn't part of that, he may have to sell low. If teams won't line up to overpay Monroe, you might be surprised at what happens.

True, but since y'all are stuck with Smith, you almost HAVE to move Monroe for shooters and creators. I saw some stats floating around another message board suggesting that Josh Smith is essentially a trigger happy, irrationally confident Al Farouq Aminu

There has been no indication that Monroe even wants to play in NOLA. Of course he would love to play with AD. Even Lebron would say so, if asked. Doesn't mean Lebron would want to jet Miami for NOLA.

Teams entering next season with a bunch of cap space -

Utah Jazz
Philly
Phoenix
LA Lakers
Cleveland
Orlando
Detroit
Charlotte
Milwaukee
Atlanta

A good case can be made that most of those teams would be higher interested in Greg Monroe. He will likely be offered a max deal.

I'm not convinced we are stuck with Smith, yet. I don't think the Pistons tried very hard to trade him last year.

The very first thing SVG did when he took the job was call Monroe's agent, and Monroe himself. SVG said he places a huge amount of value in Monroe, claimed he is a top 10 big in the NBA. This report was published in a number of outlets. They won't let him go for quarters on the dollar.

Having cap space =/= having interest in Monroe. From your list I count 3 maybes, Phoenix, Cleveland and Orlando. Honestly Afflalo for Monroe has always made the most sense if Orlando doesn't try to keep Afflalo.

quote:

Utah Jazz - Have a similar player in Kanter
Philly - Maybe, but if they don't get Wiggins it seems likely they'll draft a big to pair with Noel
Phoenix - The most interesting name on the list to me, but they already have Plumlee and Alex Len.
LA Lakers - I think they are keeping the powder dry for 2015
Cleveland - Maybe
Orlando - Maybe
Detroit
Charlotte - They have Al Jeff playing at fringe MVP level and Zeller
Milwaukee - They like Henson and are stuck with Sanders contract.
Atlanta - Al Horford is fine playing center and they have Millsap

The key word is value there. SVG is no dummy. If he thinks Monroe fits next to Drummond, he will keep him. If not, he will move him for someone who will

The problem with keeping Monroe is that the Pistons have to extend Drummond next year. They tied up too much money in Jennings and Smith already if they give Monroe big money they won't have peaches to offer Drummond. The benefit of trading for Gordon is that his big money contract comes off the books at the same time they need big money to give to Andre. And hey, if EG works with them then great; if he doesn't they can segue into another path smoothly.
