Why don't you go to a meeting and argue this with an old timer who's also an atheist/agnostic? Tell them they have been wrong all this time. They may need your enlightenment.

I had a few issues with the support group.

But... I did meet SOME good people along the way. Got some things off my chest there that I never thought I would. I figured I was just going to go through the motions and get my court slip signed at first.

But no... I did leave those meetings from time-to-time with a better piece of mind.

I guess that's why I still show up to some meetings occasionally on a Sunday morning.

they have a real nice breakfast there too sometimes.

I liked the group, just had some trouble with the steps. Mainly getting a sponsor, which I never did. I enjoyed group a lot though, most times I went.

Great thing about AA or 12 step. You can usually find one where you are that caters to people just like you, and where you feel comfortable. If you want an agnostic/lesbian/attorneys help group, there's probably one out there.

it was just that it seemed like a decent amount there were still using/drinking.

but that was then.

now, little silly distractions like that don't bother me.

I find that the Sunday morning meetings are one of the best, if not the best attended meetings of the week.

there really is a lot of people to talk to.

a lot of people there say that they have replaced church with AA meetings.

You can't judge AA based on people's experiences if those people were court ordered to it.

It isn't going to work for anyone who isn't ready or doesn't want to get sober. The key to sobriety is reaching a bottom.

NO PROGRAM WILL WORK FOR SOMEONE WHO ISN'T READY TO GET SOBER.

So what parts of AA can be applied to people needing treatment that leaves god/spirituality/faith out?

All of them. Replace the word "God" with whatever you want. For example...

3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of Les Miles as we understood Him.

I don't necessarily believe in "God", but AA has worked for me.

There are other programs, but none are nearly as successful. Go to Passages Malibu and give it a shot, ask Lindsay Lohan how that worked out.

Pretty sure Passages Malibu is a twelve step program bases on aa.

It's non-12 step. LINK

There are plenty of alternatives to 12 step based treatment.

My bad, i knew there was one big one that wasn't. Lazy on my part not to google. But I am a huge proponent of non twelve step treatment.

I'm for whatever works for the individual. Usually that ends up being more than one kind of treatment. I've done both, and needed both.

I sometimes wonder if I'm an alcoholic. I go several days without thinking about drinks, but then the urge hits me to drink. When the urge hits, it is hard to resist. Last drink was Saturday. Today (Wednesday), I felt that urge. I'm buzzing now.

Alcoholic?

Yeah, saving lives and giving opportunities for little kids to grow up in a safe and healthy environment sucks

This would be a good test, have no more, and no less than 2 drinks per day, for 30 days straight.

If you can do this, you are most likely Not an Alcoholic

No that's normal binge drinking types(it's a southern and midwestern thing that aa and professionals have no way to identify with so we're pigeon holed). Go 3 or 4 days without drinking then hit it hard for 2 days. Be like aww my body hates me for 24 hours. repeat.
