Center need will depend greatly on 2 things. How far they feel Lelito has developed and if they sign a vet or not, with Goodwin being a good potential fit.

Goodwin on a 2-year vet minimum contract or slightly higher would be a perfect situation for the Saints. They could wait until rounds 4-6 to address center/guard and take some other positions higher.

People forget the following about our OL picks:
Strief - 7th round
Evans - 4th round
Armstead - 3rd round
Nicks - 5th round
Bushrod - 4th round

Nicks, Evans, and Armstead all started their rookie years.

We also had a fair share of busts:

2007:
Andy Alleman (Guard - 3rd round)

2010:
Charles Brown (Tackle - 2nd round)
Matt Tennant (Center - 5th round)

2012:
Andrew Tiller (Guard - 6th round)

as much as its nice to have a vet who was in our system, giving him a 2 year deal is just going to get us by.

We could potentially have a pro-bowl caliber center in richburg or martin, then I want them. 2nd round is high, but for a pro-bowl quality, that'll be dandy with me.

I miss being able to punch it in from 1 yard up the middle or picking up the 1st down in 3rd and short because DT/NT blow by DLP

It doesn't mean we don't go for these guys, but reaching to just fill a need won't be as big an issue. They could risk waiting until the 3rd round to pick one of them or trade up in the 3rd for one if they think they might get pick and get a more needed player for the next season at 58.

I think Richburg is now slotted a 2nd round C and Martin is a 2-3rd as well, so by our pick either one would fit the potential BPA-need scenario.

Now if you're telling me it was between them or Moncrief/Matthews and we didn't pick up a WR in the 1st, I might rip my hair out

Those are not bust.
Those are "they didn't pan out".
Take a O liner in the first and they crap the bed and run with the money. Thats a bust!

Better term is bad pick, though I still consider Brown a bust. 2nd rounders are expected to become eventual solid starters.

I'd call Alleman a slight bust because 3rd rounders should at least contribute something and he was only active(but DNP) in one game with us and was cut after one season.

On the flip side Nicks wasn't a gem like Evans and Strief(and maybe Armstead). Bushrod was about a break even pick.

I think the point was that we've found good linemen all over the draft, but we have also struck out so we aren't batting 1.000 like some make it out to be.
