Most peeps on a budget around here sip Crooked I, OE or Dat Bull.

Popular wines are to be Night Train and MD 20/20.

Whiskey: Can't go wrong with Woodford Reserve

Rum: If available try Old New Orleans

Forty Creek Whisky. It's Canadian and about $16 a bottle at Albertsons. It's very tasty. My friend who owns Lock & Key here in Baton Rouge calls it "The Crown killer" because it's cheaper than Crown Royal and has a similar flavor profile. If I buy a bottle, I usually take it down in two-three nights. It's very drinkable.
I also think Powers is better than Jamesons or Bushmills. It's the best selling whisky in Ireland (due to the fact that Jamesons is associated with Catholics and Bushmills is Protestant). If you just want to drink whisky in a pub and not get in religious conflict, Powers is the default

Rum or whiskey. Or liquer. Someone suggested Gran Marnie which I've had before, but I can't imagine getting silly drunk off it. I've done plenty of scotch on the rocks, but this isn't really a scotch on the rocks weekend. This is a bachlor party like weekend.

So, why are you looking for a "sipping liquor"? I'm confused.

Jameson is good for both purposes. So are any number of mid range bourbons. Knob Creek maybe?

Charter

Buy multiple/numerous half pints and throw cap away when you take it off each individual bottle.

Drink straight from bottle. Sipping is for Lucies.

Will make it a weekend to remember.

If you're in New Orleans, Costco's Kirkland brand tequila is the best you can get for the price, in my opinion.

I loved Agavales and it runs about $14/750 ml, but I can't find it in Louisiana anymore which is a big disappointment.

I don't really enjoy sipping any liquors other than tequila and whiskey, so I can't help you beyond that.

You sound like an amateur.

I'd suggest Tequila Rose for you.

Thanks for the advice. I do plan on checking out some of the other ones posted. But they had a great deal for Knob Creek and I've actually never had it before. It was a $40 bottle being sold for $27.

Try a shot of Frangelico and glass of beer. Do not mix.

1. Sip the Frangelico
2. Sip the Beer
3. go to step 1
