That's why I have been saying that Superman would win the whole thing

I think the firestorm character would pretty near automatically beat superman given his ability to create out of nothing a sphere of kryptonite in which superman is trapped/incapacitated.

if you look back at the history of the character a variety of supers (not including doomsday) have beaten superman at different points. Ruin and Lobo have beaten him heads up. Darkseid, Circe, Coldcast have beaten him. Captain Marvel knocked him out cold with a sucker punch (so there are obviously meant to be limits on his invulnerability). Wonder Woman has beaten him a couple times when they fought (even when his powers were amplified). Mr Majestic and Swift are other characters who probably would.

Anyway, the point of the Superman character is that in spite of his ridiculously overpowered nature his writers still like to write him up like Rocky Balboa. He can be and perhaps even often is beaten but he is never defeated and he will win the rematch as a rule. FWIW, these debates can be taken in pretty near any direction you like - when dealing with characters with hundreds or even thousands of comic book appearances you can find dozens of examples in which the character lost or was even beaten badly... that's what writers do to make things interesting (even with the Superman characters).

Remember, they know nothing about each other. Why would Firestorm make kryptonite?

I could be wrong, but I don't think we blank their memories, but they don't get time to prepare. That's all that rule implies.

Not in this tournament.

It is the same reason Batman lost. He didn't have his dossier. These people are oblivious to their opponent's strengths and weaknesses.

I thought it implied they knew nothing about each other.

Zatanna seems like an illusionist more than a fighter

What the hell???
Zantanna is way more than an illusionist. She can speak anything into existence by speaking it backwards. She could just say ekats ni traeh as fast as she can and a stake would immediately appear in his heart, or enog traeh and his heart would disappear. Heck, I think she could just say eid and he'd die.

ETA: had to correct my spelling of a 3 letter backwards word.

yeah, i don't think that's the intent of the tourney rules.

batman would still know everything about the people he was fighting, he just wouldn't be afforded the opportunity to construct special gadgets to take each one of the characters out.

firestorm and superman do know each other and assuming he instantly uses kryptonite he's kinda an automatic winner against superman (but not power girl or shazam?)

Nope, it's the first time they have ever met (their first encounter), so they don't know each other.

1) dei =\= die
2) if she could do that then why isn't she the best fighter that ever lived?

The more I think about this, I'm kind of against the villain thing, there are going to be some BIG problems with villains.

You can't have Galactus, Dark Phoenix, etc. A lot of villains are really just guys who NEED time to prepare or they are overpowered. I mean Lex Luthor? Does he get his armor? Arcade? Does he get a funhouse or is he fighting hand to hand (because that would be a waste of time)? It just makes little sense in the end and there's an even bigger gap in equality and different "forms," than there are in heroes.

Round III

Match #1
place #1: Firestorm
place #2: Zatana
It's round 3 and I just realized this is not firestar.

Match #2
place #1: Shazam
place #2: Hellboy
Hellboy wins because he specializes in fighting magical beings.

Match #3
place #1: Wonder Woman
place #2: Black Bolt
I don't think this would be close.

Match #4
place #1: Hulk (Planet Hulk)
place #2: Ghost Rider

Match #5
place #1: Superman
place #2: Power Girl

Match #6
place #1: Spider-Man
place #2: Flash (Barry Allen)
I hate to vote this way but peter has no chance.

Match #7
place #1: Ms. Marvel
place #2: Green Latern (Hal Jordan)

Match #8
place #1: Jean Grey
place #2: Thor
I think this is the best matchup and either would win 5 out of 10 times. I'm a bit unsure of a rule here. If competitors are allowed to watch the other fights, she is more likely to win. If not she would be surprised by her inability to stop mjolnir from flying at her.

kryptonite

How could he do this? Firestorm is not from Krypton and does not know the composition of it. If they were on Earth there may not be the necessary components to create Kryptonite.

Damn, that's not good. Of course someone with an obscure alien radiation weakness is going to win. We nullified Batman and made it MUCH easier for Superman to win.

This what I thought, too.

Wasn't this addressed during the Batman vs Raven debate? It was decided he wouldn't know who she was or what her powers were. At least, that's what I remember.

...so I can't spell 3 letter words backwards, what's it to you?

Well, maybe she couldn't. But she has made things bigger than a heart disappear before. And she has come up with more complex spells than to put a stake into someones heart.

She can annihilate Superman right?

Can she etinotpyrk and just create it?

Yep, which is why I'm fighting so hard to keep her. She is one of the last ones that are capable of beating Superman. But I guess in the end Superman will win this thing.

By that logic why couldn't she just say (god dammit now I have to think) yretra egakcolb (nailed it) and everyone die of a heart attack?

Flash can beat him. Shazam can beat him. Thor can beat him.
