Caught a few bass while in college in late 90's. Got checked by game warden by Miller Hall. My buddy caught about a 4-5 lb bass and game warden rolled up. My buddy got a ticket because he didn't have his fishing license.
I know there was an alligator in there close to Lakeshore Drive a few years ago. I saw it while running. It was only about 5 ft long though.

They will have to pull out a lot more mud than that. Also the construct ability of those walking paths will be cost prohibitive. I bet It would be cheaper to truck it out and truck back in good dirt.

From what I hear there is a ditch somewhere in the middle that is 5-6 feet deep the rest of the lakes are 2-3. I have fished there 2-3 times and only had one bite so I don't bother going back.

i've caught a few bass on the side of dalrymple by the interstate. plastic worms for most, but i did catch one under the interstate on a spinnerbait. unless there's been a fish kill sometime recently, there are fish in there. if you have a boat with a depth finder you would be in a much better position to catch fish since you could concentrate on the deeper spots. if you are fishing from the bank, try to find a bank that's deeper than 1-2 ft. i really think very few people make a concerted effort to fish there.

I think the holdup with dredging is all of the stumps in the lakes

It is, but I think people are finally realizing only a foot or two more needs to fill in with mud before that property value booster is a nasty arse swamp. Article says private donations are paying for the plan. I'm taking that to mean homeowners round that bitch.

several years ago the La state record large mouth came from university lake. also, a bucket fisherman caught a MONSTER catfish in one of the lakes 5-10 yrs ago.
i'd suggest fishing from a canoe, at night, with a date. i've had better luck that way

I've seen some people catching bluegill in the ditches (the one by miller hall) with a fly rod

Thats where I'd go to show off my fly fishing skills. Cooter Canyon has a lot of bluegills.

Used to catch some good fish in there but that was in the 80s. Fish structure stickiing out of water in the middle. Very shallow along banks.

Oh yeah, there is a sewer force main that runs across the lake as well. I think it's a 36" line. It goes from the bird sanctuary area on the east side over towards the lsu chancellors house. Sometimes you can see it if the water is low. You can actually walk across on it if you are adventurous.

eu·troph·ic
/yo?o'träfik,-tro-/
(of a lake or other body of water) rich in nutrients and so supporting a dense plant population, the decomposition of which kills animal life by depriving it of oxygen.

That means its too shallow and has fish kills.

those nice homes around the lake
most of which are built on land dredged from the lake. As is the park.

Someone caught an 8 pound bass there the other day

The lake was dredged before, took a couple of years if I remember correctly, back in the mid 80's. They pulled tons and tons of cypress from the lake and stored it where the condo's are across from Baton Rouge Beach is. After completion they opened up the park, stocked the lakes with Florida bass, bluegill and striped bass. I think channel cats were added as well. The lake thrived for years, you could catch stripers at the run out between the two lakes at night. I probably landed 10 bass over 5 pounds beating the banks in the spring. They had a large hole about 15' deep near the bird sanctuary I would fish during the summer and winter by boat. It held a ton of fish but it silted back in.
