Fishing the lsu lakes

I wouldn't eat anything out of there. The runoff is pretty bad.

I haven't ever caught anything there. Seen a bunch of snakes, and that's it. There are a bunch of old cypress stumps IIRC. Best thing to do is ride around looking at bouncing bewbs. Fishing pole is a good cover story

You could just call it boob fishing and knock two birds down with one stone. There are some cuts I'd consider fishing again, but I only fished off of the bank, so I was limited. It is worth a shot, and what is the worst that can happen, you see a tit pop out?

A couple of guys in my fraternity got fined by W&F for running trout lines in the lakes. They did catch an 81 pound turtle that tasted pretty good.

Everyone I've asked says the same thing, used to be decent, now its practically dead. It needs to be dredged bad, but the project would be way too expensive because of hundreds of buried cypress stumps. Until that happens the oxygen level will keep dropping and it will keep filling up, and it's almost shallow enough to walk across now.

I googled to see if there was any talk of dredging and this came up, looks like it'll take years but someone is at least serious about trying it. A project like this could add even more value to those nice homes around the lake, versus a decline as a swamp forms in front of them. That's probably where the private funds are coming from. Either way it'll be cool if it happens.

Yes, lake was a cypress swamp which was clear cut and flooded in the 20's or 30's. it historically has fish kills so there may not be many big fish. A while back they tried to dredge it and that created the present wampold park. And when I say dredge the guy went as far as he could until he hit too many stumps then changed direction. There are lots of stumps still there.

The lake really needs to be drained and scraped clean to a decent depth to have a good fishing lake, this would also allow additional boating. But that costs 5 million and trucking mud through South Downs so it will stay as is.

It's a pretty gross lake even as LA waterways goes. It normally has high bacteria counts from what I remember (I know several individuals who got staph from swimming). There are also some sewage lines that still run into it I am sure. The interstate also dumps a lot of heavy metals and roadway pollutants into it when it rains.

It's pretty dirty all around.

Article above says they'll most likely use the mud to widen the roadways (keeping bikes and walkers out of the streets) or make a larger park. They're paying for a master plan so hopefully it doesn't fizzle out when they see the price tag.
