The adoption process is equally expensive.

Just keep in mind the cognitive development occurs from 0-2. Positive stimulus during that time period nets the greatest intelligence.

A lot of these older children have ptsd and should receive therapy from day one.

I'm young and not married yet, but my fiance and I talk about adopting a black kid in the future. We think it would be fun. Kind of like the movie "Easy A"

Just less friction in life. I have nothing but respect for people who adopt outside their race, but it's not something I'm prepared to deal with.

You'll never be able to really understand them. It's a barrier that exists, whether you want it to or not. You can love them all you want, but they'll know something is different. Better, IMO, for a child to at least be able to think they are your "tribe", in a sense.

White kids - ~$28k
Non-white - $8k

But this is the OT. You have baller status and can afford a white kid.

I've never seen it, but isn't that what sandra bullock did in the movie where she takes in a black to get rich off his potential in football?

That's on the cheaper end of the spectrum. I've read it can be anywhere from 20-50K now to adopt.

At age 30 he still swears he's white and not adopted.

I enjoy the one where Burt Reynolds takes a young whipper snapper under his wings to solve a murder case. How it only got 3.7 out of 10 on IMDB is beyond me.

But what about the chance that black kid is an amazing athlete.
1. Natural Talent
2. Resources to maximize talent
3. Send to LSU.
4. ??
5. Profit

The next Colin Kaepernick or Michael Oher.

That's the fee to the Catholic Charities of NO Adoption Services....not the lawyers.

I would be extremely careful if you want to adopt in the US. A lot of kids that are put up for adoption by mothers with a history of drug use most likely even during the entire pregnancy.

Exposure to these toxic drugs during fetal development often cause long term effects... Usually not immediately evident in the newborn-baby period, but will manifest as they begin to mature: autism, ADHD, depressed IQ, oppositional defiant disorders, depression, and numerous behavioral problems.

Remember once you adopt... It is a no return policy.

Just wondering if any of you guys have any horror stories or, hopefully, great successes of adoption.

It's an honorable thing but realistically it's like rolling the dice. I grew up with quit a few kids that were adopted and turned out fine. I saw a story a few years ago I think on 60 minutes where this couple decided to adopt an older kid. He turned out to be a sociopath and was so bad they wanted to give him back to the state.

Why!?! PLENTY of kids in the US system without going off to Timbuktu so you can play Angelina Jolie and pick out Mfufu.

10x cheaper to adopt internationally, and an infinite times the number of kids that need adopting.

Also, orphans living - for example - in a third world country in Africa are a lot worse off than an orphan living in foster care or the orphanages in America.

There is a much greater need internationally.
