Its not much in NYC. The household is making a little over 200k, but we do not have any kids. We plan to have a kid next year so things will change. Fortunately, the wife will be done with her fellowship and will be making a real salary. I will be more comfortable if we can get north of 300k.

shite is just flat out expensive up here.

You can have a decent home and a decent vehicle and live comfortably off $50k.

The total mortgage payment on a $150k home is under $1100, and that if you do FHA and have PMI and have a high homeowner's rate (south LA). Throw in a $300 car payment for a decent car, add in your retirement, savings, and living expenses, and you can make all that work for a $50k income. Some of yall are so out of touch with reality it isn't even funny.

I my first goal is 125K in my first 3 years. End goal is at least 250K.

It's the only reason my wife will work after her initial maternity leave. Both her mom and my mom will be in a position to care for our kids as much as we will let them have them

Making 100k is still a pretty damn big deal. Considering I'm sure the average for LA isn't above 50k

Absolutely. I'm a little dumbfounded that quite a few act like it's ho-hum.....but of course, this is the OT.

THIS.

But, this is the OT. Reality and reasonableness do not apply. GTFO with your logic and level-headed thinking

My mom said that wasn't happening cause she wanted "Grammy's house" to be fun and them want to go there, she said if she had them every day that would include discipline and she didn't want to do that.

My mother in law runs like 6 companies so no chance there

Part of it is where you live.

I make just over 6 figures in Houston. Goes a long way cause cost of living here is pretty good.

But most people in Oil and gas are easily doing $150k. Over a decent amount of time that will drive up cost of living/property value.

I am making moves to up my income closer to $200k in less than two years. partly to keep up with everyone else.

Yea, I think we're going to have to make sure discipline actually happens. They both plan on spoiling our kids. The wife may not work after all

In your scenario you'd be cutting it very close.

This is what I try to explain to my wife. The market for physicians is saturated in NYC. I try to tell the wife that we could move and she could make twice as much and our expenses would be cut in half. I lived in 6 states so I really don't care where we live. However, we are very close to her family so she won't move very far.

100K in Baton Rouge ain't that big a deal, brah. The average decent family cookie cutter livable house in city limits is about 300K, easy.
