If you travel enough it is. Most people look at it as a $250 annual fee because they will waive $200 in fees a year for a single airline.
You can also get the TSA Precheck fee waived as well (another $200)
Yes, and it's at least worth it for year 1.
You can get some pretty good value out of 100k Amex points. Substantially more than $1k.

If I got that offer I would get it for a year for sure

Got an offer for the AMEX Platinum. 100,000 points after 3k spend in first 3 months. We are not huge travelers but we are going to Vegas and probably a trip to NY next year, maybe San Francisco.
I am trying to see if it is worth it. I get roughly 1,000 form the 100,000 points, and will get 400 in credits over the first year, (200 credits each calendar year). I will have to pay for my wife to get into the skyclub on our way to Vegas (29 bucks).
Just not sure if the 450 is worth it in the long run or just opt for a different card.
You can always downgrade the card... seriously, that is the BEST offer you will get for that card. You would be dumb IMHO to not take it.

Used some of your suggestions. I was buying Amazon GC's from Office Depot with my Chase Ink card. It was giving me 4x the points. I was able to rack up an extra 4k points last month while trying to do most of my shopping on Amazon. Unfortunately today I went into Office Depot and they said the Amazon GC's were cash only now. I may try again with a different checkout person next time. I was hoping to make it rain UR points with this strategy.

All true.
PLUS, the Platinum Concierge service is second to none. They have helped me out many times when traveling and also just around Houston. They are great to work with and it's a free service to Platinum members. I could almost argue the $450 fee is worth it just for this service.

What do you tend to use the Platinum concierge for?
I have the card, but have never used it.

Where's the link?
Amex targeted offers generally don't have links.

No link. Got the offer in the mail.

I should be high on their list. How do I get them to notice me?

Just a heads up for any AMEX Cash Preferred cardholders, there is currently a one-time $20 statement credit for spending $20 or more at Amazon with your card by 8/31/14.

Just got mine in the mail today, looks like I'll have to find something to buy.
Also I was reading you can get free amazon prime with it, is this true?

It's reported that these offers have been targeted to non-gold customers with large sizable spending on others cards or be an authorized user on another Amex holders card that has large spend.
It's also not the best platinum offer out there. There is a 150k offer as well with 20k spend.

Really? I just looked up some of the other benefits of this card and they are pretty sweet:
Lounge Access
Global Entry
Starwood Gold Status - This is
Fine Hotels & Resorts
Purchase Protection
Looks like I will be patiently waiting for my 100k offer now

I have an SPG Amex that I put about $25-30k on a year. I wonder if that makes me eligible or not?

"The points guy" says he values them at $.02 so that's $2k in points and then of course all the other benefits laid out already.
