I, myself, would probably not be able to give a good measurement if I witnessed a crime.

If something becomes of this story and squints winston can not play the last couple of games and fsu has to turn to a 3rd string qb do voters vote osu into the title game? osu has the most to gain from this story

no. this is the same fallacy put forth in the Zimmerman case. the problem is not that the guy hasn't been convicted. the problem is that justice had been circumvented by the local PD. if this was handled properly by the authorities, instead of trying to cover it up, it wouldn't be a problem for anyone besides FSU football and their fans. but a lot of Florida State fans, including this detective, are more concerned with their football team than they are about a girl POSSIBLY being raped. And a lot of people in this country are going to be upset when a potential victim of a serious crime is ignored because the alleged culprit is a football player.

Well said. Exactly my feelings.

Alright, so he encouraged her to not press charges when Winston had yet to take a snap at FSU, but, all of a sudden, this case re-appears when Winston looks like he's a sure-fire #1 pick in the 2015 draft?

Well when you really delve deeper into whats been going on, its more than just the case re-appearing. If the case would of been handled properly by the T.P.D, I doubt it would of "disappeared" or been closed like it was for the past months.
And im not for or against Winston in this situation. Hes an incredible player. Heisman front runner and best QB in college football.
But the way the T.P.D handled it was extremely unprofessional and flat out wrong. At this point in this case, I have a bigger problem with the T.P.D than I do with Winston, due to the fact we have no idea if he did or didnt do this. But the way the T.P.D handled it makes it look worse than it already is.

When's he going to be charged?

I don't understand what point this makes.
Whether he's guilty or not, being slotted as the starting QB this year and one of the most hyped QB recruits in the country seems enough to believe the allegations are at least possible.
Also, it seems that all the added publicity around him may well be exactly the reason this case came back to light due to reporters digging around but that's hardly inexplicable?

Possibly.
However, with talks of Heisman and #1 pick start surfacing, it becomes highly questionable on why it was off the radar for 10 months, only to reappear at this moment in time.
She should have persued it from the outset and not let some shithead detective dictate her choices.

Didn't the family's statement say they were going to let it go until someone leaked it to the press?

The real problem is with the investigators. People are tired of sports figures being treated differently. And it goes both ways
Penn St - covered up
Duke - overkill
Winston - covered up?
These cases need to just wind their way through the legal system

Or Muschamp...when's the FSU/UF game?
Posted on 11/20/13 at 3:19 pm to Captain Ron
Well yea I obviously agree with that. But, if youre in a situation where you might seek legal advice or pursue legal action, and then a Detective of the Law tells warns you about doing it and tells you it would end badly for you, it would make me re-think it. Especially if i was a 20 year old female of however old she is. Doesnt mean I would let the warning decide what I was going to do. But i would re-think what I would do. Then again, I would have a lawyer with me at all times, especially when i am with police or other lawyers, immediately after this happened.
And didnt it just re-surface because a journalist from Tampa received a tip and a case # and he did his job and researched it and found out that Winston was the accused, then he reported it?

..which means someone with motive to see FSU falter is behind the leak.
1. Urban Meyer (dude has done similar stuff before)
2. REC/Alabama
3. Florida/Muschamp

Regardless of whether the allegations are true or not, I have a hard time seeing anyone's criticism of any girl/family being reluctant in sexual assault cases involving famous people.
There would almost certainly be conflicting feelings of whether to punish the assailant or to try to get back to life as normal as college aged girl and not make it the center of one's life played out in a media circus for months or more.
I would hate to have to make that choice either as the girl or as a parent.

Yeah, winning football games has to be the only reason someone would not let this go.

she called the police right after it happened and had a rape kit done. that to me is very strong evidence that this woman was assaulted/raped. maybe it wasn't Jameis, but it seems highly probable that somebody hurt her, because no woman in their right mind would put themselves through that unless they were harmed.
the TPD dropped the ball after that. it seems like they didn't do their due diligence in investigating the claim. if they had done the investigation like they should have, Jameis could have potentially already cleared his name. Or, he could be sitting in jail right now.

Rather than focusing on who and why leaked out the story that FSU PD got involved in a Tallahassee PD rape investigation that involved an FSU QB.
Let's ask the logical question of why they never got a DNA sample from Winston, interviewed his roommate and lied to the victim?
Those are all legitimate concerns.
