Diet/weight loss scenario

Female, 26 years old, 118 pounds. She has been doing the Insanity workout program and religously counting calories for 3 weeks, yet has not seen any weight loss. She averages about 1400 calories a day. Is it just an improvement in body composition with added muscle which is slowing the weight loss? I thought for sure she would be losing weight by now especially with the 1400 or less calories daily. Advice/tips are welcome

The number on the scale isn't as important as how the clothes fit/look...
I stayed the same weight for awhile but I noticed my jeans/shirts started to fit better and then eventually I found my way into a smaller pair

I agree. The only thing I can think is that her body composition is improved but she is getting frustrated and saying that clothes fit the same and she's not noticing anything. Which I understand especially with busting arse on Insanity for 3 weeks

Doesn't sound like she has much to lose to begin with so she is probably building muscle... but I'm no expert either, wait till Mouton gets on

she will be fine
give it more time, insanity does work and i know when i do it im more hungry throughout the day, it keeps your metabolism going all day
tell her to cut back on dairy and stick to lean protein and complex carbs and she will be good
Oatmeal
Berries
Apples
Sweet Potatoes
Black Beans
lean protein

The frequency you eat is as important as the quantity and quality.
She needs to be eating 5-6 meals a day on Insanity. Ive done both P90X and Insanity. Need to eat alot of the right things and often.
You can eat mcdonalds twice a day and stay under 1400 calories. Doin insanity and eating mcdonalds twice a day will not result in weight loss for someone thats not morbidly obese.

Need to see pics for an accurate assessment.

Yea the 5-6 meals a day is not happening. Typically small breakfast, small lunch, bigger dinner (typically over 500 calories). I don't know if she is organized enough to do the 5 small meal thing As far as what she's eating, it's really not bad. Definitely not McDonalds. I mean we eat spaghetti squash instead of noodles lol. Lots of fruit, veggies, chicken, turkey meatballs, lean ground beef is probably the worst thing that we eat on a decently regular basis.
I'm guessing she'll probably get results in the next couple weeks just needs to get over that threshold

SHE doesn't have to loose weight doofus. She is borderline or over the point of being on a starvation diet in fact.

Hey, you're preaching to the choir. But its a different story convincing her.

Look up a body mass index chart, it accounts for all three components age/height/weight of revelance and a fourth sex.

She's turning the flab to ab, even if she can't see it yet. It's about to start melting off. Tell her to go look at the before/after pics for Insanity users - they usually take a pic at the one month mark, and the drastic difference is between the mid way and finishing points.

You aren't adding any significant muscle in three weeks or doing insanity for that matter.

Yes it will.

Quit looking at the number on the scale. Absolutely the wrong motivation for any diet and exercise plan. All 5'2" are not created equal. At 118, some will look painfully underweight, and others amply padded. Entirely depends on frame, natural tendency toward muscle mass, etc. Fixating on the scale is seriously unhealthy.
Focus on goals: running a mile (or running it in a specific time), time/distance, or other fitness achievables. Shooting for weight is a pointless pursuit, especially when she is already on the low end of excess poundage.
If I had a dollar for every woman I knew who wasted precious hours of her life fixating on the scale, I could retire tomorrow. Tell her to go visit a chemo infusion ward and talk to some sisters dealing w/breast cancer, etc, often as young as their late 20s. She'll forget that scale shite. Live life, be healthy, and avoid haters who would tell you otherwise. Lots of batshit crazy orthorexic wannabees at certain gyms. Peak physical health does not equal mental health or happiness.
Just my 2c.
