3 Day Mt. Rainier Climb- video added to OP

Headed to Seattle later today to grab a beer with LSUintheNW and then head towards Mt. Rainier for a 3 day summit attempt this weekend. He suggested a Rainier climb last year when I asked for ideas for a challenge/adventure for this year. I will not have cell service near Rainier so I'm posting a bit early. (Someone please bump thread Friday morning). I will post pics and videos after the climb.

Never climbed anything before so I will see how it goes with the altitude and thin air. Unlike my kayak race last month, I have no frame of reference for this endeavor. I have never touched an ice ax before and never heard of a crampon before I signed up for the climb. The success rate to summit is just over 50% which is oddly about the same rate of finishing the kayak race....

Around 11:00am (central time) this Friday, THIS LINK to my satellite tracker should start receiving a signal. It will update our location every 10 minutes.

Below is a breakdown of the general timeline. The locations I list below can be found on the map below. Times are central time zone

On this Friday, around 11:00am, the tracking link should start receiving a signal. We will leave from the parking lot in Paradise, Washington with packs weighing around 40 pounds. We should hit the snow field after about 2.5 miles. Our final destination for Friday is Camp Muir at approximately 10,200 feet. If you switch the the tracker to satellite view, you should be able to see the stone structures making up the camp . We will stay the night here.

On Saturday morning, we leave Camp Muir in a rope team and head to Ingrahm Glacier where we will camp in tents at 11,200 feet on "The Flats".

Saturday night between midnight and 2am we assemble into rope teams, with headlamps, and start heading towards the summit. "Disappointment Cleaver" is a steep section and is the breaking point for a lot of climbers. Climbers that are struggling, often don't make it past here..

The plan is to reach "high break" before daybreak so you can be there for the sunrise. After this break, the final push for the summit.

After 30-45 minutes on the summit, we start down. We will descend the entire mountain on Sunday; arriving back at the parking lot around 5-7pm.
