Ha that is what I bought the piece in
I have a leather holster it sits in though the holster is for a detective special
So I'm bout to get a synthetic holster to fit it and then save the leather one for when I actually get my detective special

Can you identify the model of mine? Just says.38 S&W SPL. on one side and S&W written out on the other of the barrel.
Mine's not as nice as yours, but does it have a number?

Model number is usually engraved on the frame under the cylinder. Just pop the cylinder open and look on the frame just below the barrel

Ruger SP 101 357. 3 inch barrel.
It's a smaller gun but built like a brick house. The steel frame allows for a very manageable recoil.

Ruger red hawk
The best and only answer. I have redhawks, blackhawks and S&W and a couple other handguns. By far when it comes to hand loading, The red/black hawks can handle the hottest load were as others can and will come apart. All in the frame baby.

I have the 686 and a model 66.
The 686 has a 6" barrel which is a little long, so I prefer the snub nose 66.
