I know I'm late to this party. Watched it with my wife last night.

Neither of us was really impressed. I thought it was okay, but was expecting better.

What's the consensus around here?

Btw, I thought the acting was solid, Cooper was very good and I think as others do that Jennifer Lawrence is the next great actress (Winter's Bone). The directing was just very "choppy" to me.

Yeah, I really think Lawrence has the potential to be one of the all time greats if she continues this for another few decades.

Movie of the year IMO. Everyone acted their arse off in that movie.

I read the book a few months ago. Just watched the movie for the first time tonight. It was an hour into the movie before I could truly embrace that they completely changed the plot of the book for the big screen. I enjoyed the story in the book much more than the movie. Although I think the movie was very well casted.

I loved it. One thing that really stood out was that I avoided spoilers and it turned out to be very unpredictable. That was one of the brightest spots for me, kind of kept me on the edge of my seat and I actually simpathized with the characters. I wasn't like rooting against anyone and until the end I really had no clue if it would be a happy ending or not.

I don't disagree with the acting at all. I just thought the movie could have been better.

From the most nominated movies of last year, I've seen Django, Argo, Zero Dark Thirty, Silver Linings and Lincoln. Still have not seen Life of Pi or Les Miserable.

From those I've seen, I'd rank them as movies:
1. Argo
2. Django
3. Zero Dark
4. Lincoln
5. Silver Linings

Besides memes give me a reason why Silver Linings was awesome to you. TIA.

I liked it because the drama in it was a bit more off putting than normal romantic comedy. I really liked the inappropriate dialogue, and the fact that they didn't "fix" each other.

For some reason, this movie reminded me of Chasing Amy when I first saw it, without the whole lesbian thing.

and it's the so unrealistic, all the bums in this movie need to get jobs and quit dancing in garages and living off the rest of us.

I watched the movie and liked it. However, I can't say I found Jennifer Lawrence's performance Oscar worthy.

Not that it was bad or anything, it just didn't seem special to me.

I did think that Bradly Cooper did an excellent job.

Didn't want to start a new thread but I watch it last night. Got the movie for pregnant wife and she fell asleep and I ended up at the foot of the bed. Wasn't expecting much so maybe that's why I thought it was a great, feel good movie.

I liked it. It was a well acted, solidly directed romantic comedy that avoided the usual formula and kept me entertained. Both men and women enjoyed it. That along makes it pretty unusual. I also thought it had a great balance between the funny parts and the drama parts.

I had a couple of quibbles with plot points here and there but overall definitely more worthy of two hours than most of the stuff that comes out.

Like how Jan made Michael sleep at the foot of the bed from The Office?

I really liked the movie, and I think lawrence is a good actress. However, I would have given the Oscar to Jessica chastain for zd30 IMO.

I watched it last week and it was just ok in my book.

Its funny I was expecting Lawrence to be really really good and she basically gave a "juliet Lewis"-esque performance. I don't get the hype.

I was expecting to hate Bradly Cooper but he was actually really really good.
