St. Arnold makes a very good root beer. I've only had it a few times, but always really enjoy it.

Frostop was always premier rootbeer.
Havn't seen a big frosty rotating mug in front of a burger stand in years.
Miss them. Lot-O-Burgers were $0.49 back in the pre Mcdonald's days. Frys may have been $0.20. I think a big mug of rootbeer, frozen to the sides of the mug was $0.25.
May have been a first date location (probably at least one of the first few) with the wife back in the 1960s in Jackson.
I know for a fact that Frostop was where I had my first grilled cheese.

It was always my go to drink when we'd meet my dad at the country club for lunch after he played a round of golf. Fond memories of childhood.

Not polite to discuss a lady's age. I probably have 10 years on her. I have many more days behind me than in front of me.

I stop at the one in Laplace off of airline religiously just to grab a cold mug root beer and an order of onion rings. Onion rings are average, root beer is heavenly

I'm going to go on a search and buy all sorts of bizarre ones and line them up for pics like the beer snobs do.

Barq's is my favorite mass produced, edging out IBC by a nose. BJ's Brewhouse actually has some legit root beer made "in house".

Abita and Saint Arnolds are my favorites
did not care for Virgils, thought it had too much licorice

Drink Barq's, It's Good!
Wish you could still find Barg's Red Creme Soda in a glass bottle.

The best tasting root beer I ever had was from a woman they called "The Root Beer Lady" who lived as a hermit in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area near Ely, Minnesota. She just squatted on a tiny island in the wilderness. Eventually, she had lived there so long they allowed her to live out her days there. Her little house was quite picturesque, having a picket fence made of multi-colored lost paddles she collected.
During the winter, she would make root beer and harvest large blocks of ice from the frozen-over lakes. The blocks were stored underground and she had ice all through the summer. During the summer, she would have ice cold root beer to sell to all the hot & thirsty canoeists passing by.
I don't know how she made it - she may have bought some extract off the shelf like you or I could do, but believe me that was the best tasting and most welcome root beer you can imagine.
