Easy there killer. You assholes get so damn defensive sometimes. Not every comment that's different from the norm is someone being a pretentious prick. Lighten up Francis

I used to live in Chicago when I was younger (the city that goose island brewery is in) and we went on a root beer kick one summer trying everything under the sun. Goose Island ended up being the best one I had.

Whole Foods has Virgils and another good brand I can't recall. Get some Reed's ginger beer for another mean vanilla float option.

I like triple X out of Austin

I stop by Rocket Fizz in Houston from time to time and get a sampler 4 pack of stuff I want to try.. usually at least one root beer and at least one creme soda, filling the rest with random stuff.

Triple X is the only thing I've gotten twice at this point.

for houston people: they also have virgil's and sprecher.

Went to Whole foods for lunch and had 3 slices of pizza ad a Virgil's root beer. My 4-y/o son stole it from me b/c he liked it so much so I had to get another bottle. Excellent stuff, no doubt.

You guys made me go to Frostop in Covington tonight.

By the way I see that you can buy a half or whole gallon of their Rootbeer at the restaraunt.

As for widely available (e.g., Albertson's)rootbeer...I am a pretty big fan of Sioux City Sarsaparilla. In fact, I just visited the pantry to grab one as I read this posting. I usually get Thomas Kemper when I am in the NW but like to drop by the Rootbeer Store outside of Seattle and try something new each time I visit (they carry over 100 varieties).

I went into Stines Lumber of all places in Walker yesterday and you can buy bottles of Frostop rootbeer now. I was in a hurry and didn't grab one. I want to see if it's just like in the restaurant.

From their website.

Frostop's® painted label, 16 oz., brown glass, long-neck beer bottle is available for single-serve sales through many convenience stores, deli's, and restaurants.

In a frosty mug.

I also really like Goose Island. I'll have to hunt down some of this Virgil's.
