I'm talking food and food knowledge here and you're bringing up some OT/FDB drama bullshite.

Do you not see that as important?

No, actually, I really don't think that's important in the slightest. Not even a little.

Would it kill you to present it in a non-douchetacular way? People like me might actually learn something and not get totally turned off by your posts.

So you pop in here and make a snide little comment about me personally, and R2R, completely unprovoked, and I'm the douche?

I don't really know how you can be helped. Seriously...

You throw a grenade and someone throws it back at you, and they're the douche?

Man, some of you have enormous issues.

That's the point of the quote in the title as well as some of the other examples some folks give regularly in threads asking about restaurants.

Carry on, folks...

Yeah, cuz I was the first to mention R3R...ooops. No, I wasn't. Are you going to pretend this is your first rodeo on something like this? Really?

When I hear or read that, I assume the place is just okay, but that's not the univeral meaning, apparently.

This.

A milktoast defense of a mediocre place. Most likely a chain restaurant or "famous fried food".

This response would likely live on a threat that has 10 pages of responses. Such as the Jimmy John's thread. It required 5 true responses and that is it.

I should have been more clear.

I was complimenting you on your interpretation that it "could be" a lot of things. It was a good singling out, R2R.

I've been using it wrong then. When I've said it, I have intended a much more positive review.

I've never had a bad meal at Middendorf's now that you mention it.

I've never had a bad meal at Casamento's and I'm planning on not having a bad meal again in the near future.

So you agree food is subjective and everyone has different taste. But you can't see why one would say JJ is awful. That is truly baffling.

I get people's palates differing or preferences varying. What I don't quite understand is how that can be used as a qualifier for people who may be considering going to eat at a place without anything of substance to go on, no reasoning, just "it's the best" or "it's great."

I was recently told that Uncle O's has amazing roast beef Poboys, and they're the best in BR, so I give them a try, and they turned out to be garbage, resembling very little to me when I think of what a really good New Orleans Roast Beef poboy is supposed to taste like or the texture, ingredients, etc. just lots of food, and tons of mayo and mushy bread.

When people say things like that on this board, I think it's just respectful and reasonable to expect some kind of breakdown of the food in order to put it into perspective, and that's for the very reason you said, that people have different tastes or expectations, and perceptions of what they think is good, or acceptable, or legitimate, proper, etc. there are elements of the dish that either make it so, or not.

See, I've never though anything I've ever gotten at a place was garbage.

Sounds like the perfect poboy.
